As the Transmission Engineering and Design Manager, you will play a key role in overseeing the planning, design, implementation, and operational aspects of our SDH / MW transmission networks. This role requires a strong technical background, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless deployment and operation of our network infrastructure and services.
Responsibilities
1. Team Performance: Accountable for the performance, development, and wellbeing of the Transmission Engineering and Design team. Setting clear performance objectives, conducting regular 121’s and coaching the team.
2. Network Stability: Accountable for the stability and reliability of all core SDH / MW network infrastructure. Proactively take measures to address potential network issues or faults and ensure minimal service outages to meet relevant SLA and KPI.
3. Project Delivery: Ensure successful and timely delivery of SDH / MW network infrastructure and customer projects/orders in terms of design and deployment activities. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to overcome challenges to meet project deliverables or milestones.
4. Budget Management: Manage the CAPEX and OPEX budgets for the SDH / MW design and operations domains. Identify opportunities for cost saving initiatives without compromising quality.
5. Supplier Management: Manage and maintain positive supplier relationships, working with our procurement function to ensure cost efficiency with SDH / MW related price book items hardware and software.
6. Network Design and Optimisation: Lead a team in designing scalable and cost-effective SDH / MW network solutions, exploring and driving optimisation opportunities.
7. Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day operations and drive high availability and reliability with the networks.
8. Team Leadership: Build and lead a skilled team of SDH / MW transmission engineers/designers. Nurture a collaborative culture between design and operations.
9. Escalation: Act as a first level of escalation to the design team and to the tier 3 team, appraising situations and managing down where further escalation is not required.
10. Training: Ensure team training plans complement the Neos product set and roadmap, influenced by the overarching business strategy.
11. Business Case Input: Input to RFI, ITT and governance gate packs to ensure correct technology is selected.
12. Network Risk Management: Regularly assess network risk and implement strategy to mitigate future risk.
13. Management Reporting: Produce monthly team and network performance reports covering resourcing and key SLA or KPI performance metrics.
14. Health, Safety & Environment: Management responsibility for team safety engagement and performance.
What do I need?
You will need the following skills for this role:
1. Proficient knowledge of SDH / MW transmission network technologies and standards.
2. Specific knowledge with DNWP CM, Nokia Dynanet, Siae MW radios systems, Cisco Routers and Switches would be advantageous.
3. Understanding of Customer OTN network specifications and design rules.
4. Experienced in people management and leadership.
5. Concise oral and written communication skills.
6. Problem solving and management skills.
7. Experience in design, operations, integration/test and commissioning within SDH /MW transmission.
8. Excellent knowledge of the telecommunications market and current innovations.
9. Good understanding of finance and commercial modelling.
10. A degree in a relevant field (Telecommunications, IT or Sciences) would be desirable but not essential.
11. It is a requirement for this role that you have a full, current driving licence.
