THE ROLE
Reporting to the Director, Business Portfolio and Delivery Management, the Business Portfolio Manager is a key role within the Information Technology Services (ITS) Branch. The Business Portfolio and Delivery Management Team facilitates the delivery of IT services that enable stakeholders to meet their commitments to Victorians. Business Portfolio Managers are accountable for coordinating responses to new and emerging requirements, risks, and issues related to families, fairness, housing, and corporate services, working with Strategic Advisors and Business Analysts.
This role manages a specific portfolio of business areas, engaging proactively with executive stakeholders, service owners, and project teams to drive investment planning, change management, and service improvements. Responsibilities include portfolio planning, demand and benefits management, business case development, and investment oversight, ensuring technology solutions align with departmental priorities. Business Portfolio Managers act as strategic advisors, providing insights into risks, opportunities, and dependencies across ICT initiatives while maintaining alignment with enterprise architecture and ICT strategy. They collaborate with business areas and technology teams to identify, assess, and prioritize initiatives for uplift, replacement, or new investment.
Success in this role requires strong stakeholder management, strategic planning, and organizational awareness, especially when working with complex, high-impact initiatives in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Accountabilities Include
1. Lead technology investment planning for assigned business portfolios, ensuring alignment with departmental strategy, service priorities, and emerging risks.
2. Partner with senior business leaders to translate service needs into strategic ICT investment roadmaps, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and government priorities.
3. Provide strategic oversight of ICT initiatives, ensuring projects are prioritized, sequenced, and governed effectively to deliver maximum value.
