Milton Keynes University Hospital are excited to announce that we have recently had a business case approved to expand our Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) cardiology and respiratory services. We are currently recruiting a number of roles, from Chief Physiologist to Driver, within the Medicine division and Estates department.
We are currently hiring a Mechanical Fitter to undertake maintenance repairs and minor improvement across the Trust as directed by Management, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures. You will be working on water systems, ventilation systems, steam systems, air tube systems, heating and cooling plant, and other mechanical equipment at the Trust.
Sometimes you will need to identify maintenance issues on your own, so you'll need to have confidence working without supervision on occasions. Additionally, you will be working closely with the Estates Services Manager, Maintenance Manager, Mechanical Supervisor and Estates Officers.

Main duties of the job
To perform maintenance, repair and installation work, including activities which are technically intricate and/or non-routine.
Responsible for calibration and fault-finding on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment (low pressure hot water systems, steam raising plant, Air Handling Units, steam sterilisers and associated equipment).
Undertaking maintenance repairs and minor improvement across the Trust as directed by Management, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.

Main duties and responsibilities
To work on water systems, ventilation systems, steam systems, air tube systems, heating and cooling plant, and other mechanical equipment at the Trust.
To be prepared to work in hazardous areas, taking all safety measures to prevent danger, and avoid injury, and prevent damage to equipment, following Policies and Procedures.
To work in accordance with the requirements of Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs) on Sterilisation (HTM 2010), and Washer Disinfectors (HTM 2030) after appropriate training.
To actively participate in the operation and control of engineering planned maintenance schemes.
Work overtime to carry out emergency repairs as required by management.
Undertake on-call duties as part of the on-call team to ensure that emergency repairs occurring out of normal hours are attended to, including at short notice, to ensure this essential service is maintained.
To always carry Trust communication devices, including a two-way radio (to facilitate immediate response to emergencies) and an electronic tablet (in order to receive and update reactive & PPM job tasks).
To undertake essential repair works and general maintenance activities at the request of the Estates Services Manager, Maintenance Manager, Mechanical Supervisor or Estates Officers.
To estimate the material requirements of a job and advise accordingly.
To record the progress of all tasks by keeping electronic records up to date.
To carry out minor works on equipment associated with other Trade disciplines.
To undertake other duties consistent with the role/grade of the post as requested by Management.

Qualifications and knowledge
Essential
9. City & Guilds 214 - Part 2 OR Plumbing Advanced Craft Certificates (Course 596-2) (i) Sanitary plumbing (ii)Installation & Maintenance of Domestic Heating Systems & Appliances)
Desirable
10. BTEC, ONC in Mechanical Engineering
11. Adequate knowledge of, and within the preceding three years, training for first aid treatment for electrical shock

12. Completion of a structured training programme in Mechanical Engineering with relevant site experience.
13. Knowledge of Low Pressure Hot Water Systems and Steam Raising Plant.

14. Experience of working in an Acute Hospital Environment.
