The role is for an experienced data scientist who is a recognised both internally and by customers as a subject matter expert - with a track record of applying data science and machine learning to deliver measurable benefit for our customers' missions - and go-to person in at least one area of data science and machine learning, demonstrating clear technical leadership and the ability to influence.
Our UK Cyber & Intelligence business combines modern software development approaches with a rich heritage and experience in the Defence and security sectors. Our customers have complex and sensitive data and information requirements requiring a mission partner who quickly understands the context, delivering and sustaining a portfolio of challenging technology projects at scale and pace, supporting them through an ambitious digital transformation programme.
Responsibilities:
Plan and execute complex data science requirements across a portfolio of projects, including identification of risks, dependencies and mitigation strategies - makes decisions that impact the achievement of own organisation's objectives and financial performance
Provide technical leadership for multiple teams of data scientists, to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and to quality, and manage any changes to data science work packages
Act as a formal customer point of contact and maintain strong, influential relationships with key senior stakeholders, internally, in the customer organisation and with industry leaders, supported by an excellent working knowledge of the customer domain and the ability to communicate technical and non-technical information effectively at all levels
Broker new relationships within the customer organisation, and reach back into Northrop Grumman and its partners to provide added value to the customer through deduplication of effort and access to unique expertise
Contribute subject matter expertise into bids, proposals and studies, and growing a portfolio of projects, using customer knowledge to ensure proposals meet their needs

We are looking for:
Champion innovation and best practice, and apply emerging theory to our customers' missions, to ensure Northrop Grumman remains at the leading edge of the application of data science and machine learning
Communicate with senior (internal and customer) stakeholders and convince them of the business benefits of data science and machine learning aligned with wider organisational objectives
Exhibit a breadth of understanding across data science and machine learning and be able to help other data scientists apply this to a range of customer problems, and have deeper expertise in a number of areas of data science and machine learning
Be able to work with data engineers and customers to map, produce, transform and test data feeds that support the application of data science and machine learning solutions
Be able to design, code, test, correct and document moderate-to-complex programs and scripts to agreed specifications and review the code of other data scientists
Experienced in geographical information systems and in predictive and prescriptive analysis of geographical data would be a bonus
