An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Maternity and Gynaecology Unit. We require a Gynaecology Oncology Nurse Specialist with significant experience of recent post registration. Gynaecology Nursing experience in an acute setting is desirable but not essential.
You will need to be a forward thinking highly motivated professional. You will need to be an effective leader and be able to provide support to all members of the nursing team. High standards of nursing care will need to be both demonstrated and maintained.
You will possess excellent communication skills, be enthusiastic and have the drive to continually improve the Oncology Service provided.
An Enhanced DBS Certificate, with the checking of the Children and Adults' Barred Lists is required for this position.
Main duties of the job
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of evidence-based nursing care.
* Provide specialist advice and clinical practice.
* Provide specialist education and training to others including ward staff.
* Work collaboratively and co-operatively to support clinical colleagues to develop services and high quality of care delivered.
* Support the Band 7 to lead the development of clinical services within the specialist field.
* Triage referrals to Gynaecology CNS team.
* Manage an agreed patient caseload, when the diagnosis of gynaecological cancer has been made. Order investigations per protocol and act upon results following discussion with senior colleagues.
* Identify, assess and triage patients ensuring smooth transition to other services as appropriate.
* As required undertake procedures.
* Undertake Holistic Needs Assessment, develop comprehensive care plans, with measurable outcomes, including advice or education to other clinical staff and caregivers.
* Ensure the involvement of patients, carers and relatives in the planning and delivery of care.
* Act as a practitioner with supervision, exercising judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care.
* Support senior team with compliance with any specific regulations for example: Quality Surveillance Programme, drug administration, record keeping and data collection within own area of work.
* Adhere to protocols for nurse led clinics, ensuring that outcomes are evaluated and activity monitored.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Evidence of ongoing professional development with a relevant diploma.
* Willingness to study to degree level.
* Basic life Support.
* Recognised teaching qualification or equivalent.
Knowledge & Experience
* Previous experience working in the NHS.
* Significant experience working in Gynaecology.
* Ability to set and establish priorities.
* Evidence of quality improvement in patient care.
* Ability to deal with difficult and sensitive situations.
* Knowledge of participation in audit.
* Awareness of understanding an application of current evidence-based practices.
* Awareness of how audit may influence quality of patient care.
* Previous experience working as a Nurse Hysteroscopist.
* Evidence of leadership qualities.
* Previous management experience of a caseload or ward team.
* Current Government NHS initiatives relevant to nursing and Gynaecology services.
Skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Effective organisational skills.
* Able to perform hysteroscopy procedures within an outpatient setting.
