We are looking for an enthusiastic Consultant Gastroenterologist to join our team.
The post will deliver a contribution to the endoscopy service (elective and emergency), gastroenterology outpatient services and inpatient gastroenterology. Inpatient Gastroenterology involves managing patients on the gastroenterology ward, respective outlier ward, seeing referrals on other wards and providing an in-reach service to the Acute Medical Unit.
The post-holder will be expected to develop a sub-specialty interest in line with the needs of the department and to develop the management of this service. An interest in inflammatory bowel disease and nutrition is desirable.
The post holder will be responsible for running the GI ward on a 1 in 11 rota basis, providing daily ward rounds for 7 days. For the other 10 weeks of the cycle, the post holder will deliver 5 clinical, face-to-face sessions (e.g., 3 clinics and 2 endoscopy sessions) as well as attending MDTs and seeing referrals. Throughout the 11-week cycle, the post holder will contribute to a 1:14 on-call rota for out-of-hours emergency endoscopy.
The morning endoscopy list has an average of 12 points and an afternoon list has an average of 10 points.
Outpatient clinics have an average of 8 new patients or 14 review patients.
The department will consider time off in lieu for planned weekend working.
Main duties of the job
General
* In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to provide a service in Gastroenterology.
* To play a full part in the out-of-hours On-Call service for the department. This includes being on-call for telephone advice and major incidents.
* To provide cover for Consultant and Senior colleagues in respect of periods of leave.
* To take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.
* To ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.
* To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.
Person specification
* Full registration and a license to practice with the GMC
* Independent endoscopist capable of delivering on-call emergency endoscopy
* Evidence of audit and the implementation of change following the audit
