We require a Band 7 midwife who is able to coordinate on delivery suite working day and night shifts.
To provide a high standard of woman-centred care in a multi-professional /disciplinary, complex setting.
To be an expert and professional role model for others in the field of complex labour and birth and women’s health to offer advice so that they can also achieve a high standard of women-centred care. This includes junior midwives, junior doctors, midwifery and AHP students.
To have continuing responsibility for the leadership, supervision and management of midwives, nurses, students and maternity support workers in Women and Children’s on a day-to-day basis and in the absence of the Matron.
To facilitate and ensure continuous professional development of all members of the midwifery and nursing team.
To participate in audit and research.
Main duties of the job
The role of the band 7 on delivery suite is diverse, fast paced and exciting. In this role you will be an expert in your field, be supportive to a wide range of staff, be a leader and role model, ensure standards are maintained to the highest level and ensure safety is always at the forefront of your work. This will in turn provide the highest standard of care for the mothers, babies and families we care for.

The service at North Bristol Trust provides a full range of obstetric services for those who live in the catchment of North Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. Our maternity department has 5200 births each year. Our involvement in world renowned research has led to the development of PROMPT. At our last CQC inspection, we were rated as ‘good’, meaning we are performing well and meeting expectations. We are fully committed to building on this success and we encourage all staff to have a voice and share ideas and innovations.
We have a consultant led Obstetric Unit with 2 HDU rooms, 9 birthing rooms and a pool room. We also have an extensive Maternal Medicine service, including Perinatal Mental Health and Complex Care team and a Fetal Medicine service. Our antenatal ward hosts a Triage, day assessment area and inpatient ward and our postnatal ward prides itself on giving the best quality postnatal care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will have continuing responsibility for leadership, supervision and management of midwives or nurses, students and clinical support workers ensuring delivery of a professional, efficient and cost-effective service, in the absence of the Matron. You will be expected to maintain a high standard of evidence-based care for women and their families through development of evidence-based guidelines, and keeping up to date with developments in professional practice and share with staff. You will assist the Matron and other Band 7's in the management of staff absences, appraisals, ensuring staff attend study days, be a professional role model for others and to challenge poor practice with the correct support and guidance.

* Knowledge & understanding of research/evidence based practice and its application to midwifery practice

* Advanced clinical skills and proactive approach to teaching
* Knowledge and understanding of Clinical Governance
