Welcome to Devon Partnership Trust! We would like to invite you to apply for the Consultant Psychiatrist post in Older Peoples Community Mental Health Team working in North Devon. This is a full-time Community Consultant post for older people community mental health services in North Devon. This is to provide 1.0 WTE consultant cover for this team alongside 1.0 WTE SAS doctor. The Consultant post has become available after the retirement of the previous postholder.
This post is suitable as a first NHS consultant, an existing or post-retirement consultant with a broad level of general adult psychiatric expertise. International candidates are welcome to apply. Experience of working in adult community mental health services is preferable but support will be given to doctors wishing to move from other psychiatric specialties or roles.
We are an expanding organisation providing a full range of mental health and learning disability services for a population of over a million people, as well as a range of specialist and secure services for the wider region and nationally.
Main duties of the job:
1. The post holder will share clinical leadership with the other senior members of the team and be responsible for the psychiatric assessment and management of patients referred to the service.
2. Patient safety and Quality Improvement are key aspects of the role and training will be provided if required.
3. Programmed Activities are negotiable for research, teaching, medical management and other special interests.
4. You will take part in on-call rota and other consultants from the area will be expected to provide cross-cover for leave.
5. You will be well supported by a dedicated full-time medical staffing department.
6. Approved Clinician status at appointment is preferable but those who would be eligible e.g., doctors applying from abroad, will be supported to obtain this authority.
7. We have excellent IT and full electronic record across our services.
8. A mentor and peer group will be provided. You will have 2.5 Supporting Programmed Activities (10 hours a week) to support your professional development, attend your monthly peer group, quarterly medical advisory committee, and local post-graduate meetings.

Person Specification
Experience:
1. Prior experience working in a Community Mental Health Team.
2. Experience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings, especially the community.
3. Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance.
Qualifications:
1. Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
2. To hold Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up post.
3. Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview.
4. Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
