Overview: Our client, a leading civil engineering contractor, has been awarded several new substation, overhead line, and subsea cable route projects across the North of Scotland for their key client, SSEN. They are offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced and driven Project Manager to join their team. As this role is at the Early Contractor Involvement stage, you will be joining the team from the outset and will oversee the project through to its successful completion. Your expertise will be crucial to the success of this venture, and we are keen to welcome an experienced professional to our team.
Your Role:
Duration: Based in head office on outskirts of Glasgow until Summer 2025. Following this period, you will be required to work on various sites between Inverness and Aberdeen.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Oversight:
Manage all aspects of the project, ensuring successful outcomes and a high level of professionalism. Communicate clearly and effectively with everyone involved in the project, as well as with the wider community.
2. Direction and Example:
Provide strategic, operational, and contractual guidance to the project team. Lead by example in health, safety, and environmental matters, including conducting safety tours and supporting HSQE initiatives. Maintain high standards of environmental awareness and behaviour.
3. Quality and Mentorship:
Ensure quality delivery through effective planning and execution. Mentor and develop key staff to support their career progression.
4. Team Management:
Lead the project team, fostering commitment, morale, and motivation at all levels. Promote cost-effective management by efficiently utilising resources.
5. Client Relationships:
Maintain a strong working relationship with the client, their project management team, and the supply chain. Encourage repeat business by maintaining contact with key clients and stakeholders and demonstrating commitment to their needs.
6. Financial and Programme Management:
Establish and monitor a cost management system for financial control and accurate reporting. Ensure realistic project programmes are prepared, managed, and updated as necessary.
7. Process and Systems:
Implement and review method statements, activity plans, and risk assessments regularly. Ensure commercial and financial management systems are in place to support project success. Make necessary site-based appointments with trained and experienced staff.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Degree or HND in Engineering or equivalent.
2. Experience as a Project Manager or Senior Agent in Civil Engineering contracting.
3. Proven leadership and management capabilities.
4. Detailed knowledge of civil construction and contract forms.
5. Experience in delivering construction projects.
