Working closely with the QHSE Director and the Quality Manager, the HSE Manager will lead a team of HS&E Technical Experts and be responsible for the management, maintenance and effective deployment of a variety of health, safety and environmental systems and associated processes within our Service Operations department, covering the UK, Europe and wider afield.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. You will work closely with the QHSE Director to develop and maintain the Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental (including Energy) integrated management system, company standards and procedures.
2. Work with both location and function management to ensure that all colleagues are aware of the HS&E strategy and provided with the appropriate training, and necessary information they may require.
3. Review the HS&E management system periodically and ensure that it conforms to the requirements of the integrated management system standards.
4. Work with the Quality Manager to ensure that the HS&E management system is adequately audited, an internal programme prepared and areas for improvement reported to the business and other relevant interested parties.
5. Ensure that the Corporate Risk Register includes hazards affecting HS&E and that suitable and sufficient controls are established to eliminate/reduce risk to the business.
6. Ensure appropriate documentation and records are kept up to date and revising them when necessary due to changes in legislation, working practices etc.
7. Undertake inspections and audits (as part of business assurance programme), identify corrective and/or preventative measures and assure improvement actions are implemented.
8. Work with management to ensure that all HS&E incidents and near misses are investigated and that the identified preventative and corrective actions are carried out.
9. Maintain HS&E incident records and statistics and to identify trends and areas requiring improvement.
10. Maintain Environmental and Energy records and statistics and work with key stakeholders to reduce carbon footprint.
11. Support the QHSE Director to report in-line with legal responsibilities and to MHI information requests.
12. Pro-actively advise and support business operations and the location (facilities) management function.
13. Manage a Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) team to effectively support operational delivery.
Skills & Experience Required
1. Experienced in health, safety and environmental and risk management in an engineering and/or construction environment.
2. International exposure along with security and medical management experience are not required but would be an advantage.
3. Strong project and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks of varied complexity, set priorities, meet deadlines, and develop process efficiencies where required.
4. General knowledge and experience in developing HSE systems, including documents such as QMS Action Plans, HSE management plans, etc.
5. Highly organised and self-motivated with the ability to manage and effectively motivate others.
6. A pragmatic approach and comfortable working in a collaborative and fluid environment.
7. Demonstrated ability to create and deliver engaging and effective live training programmes.
8. Excellent collaboration skills to engage with high performance teams and colleagues in different functions and levels within a diverse and global organisation.
9. Possess a thorough working knowledge of ISO 45001:2018, ISO 14001:2015 and hold an internal auditor qualification in either or both standards.
10. Be a health and safety practitioner with a NEBOSH national diploma or equivalent. Must be a Chartered Membership of IOSH or actively working towards it.
