Bridge School Malvern is an independent special needs school supporting 11-19s. We are in a beautiful rural location overlooking the Malvern Hills. The main school is set up with a five-acre care farm on site. We are a small school (52 students) established as a charity 16 years ago. We have a creative, practical curriculum, delivered over a short school day (9am-2pm), and strive to create a working environment where our committed and professional staff are given the time to care. Our 16-19 provision is based a mile away in Barnard’s Green. Here we have four micro businesses and a team of mentors/careers coaches who support the young people’s wider needs.
We are looking to recruit our own full-time Speech & Language Therapist to work across both sites. You will have a key role in developing a communication-friendly environment and ensuring that pupils gain the skills and confidence to communicate effectively as part of their journey towards living as independently as possible. You will help staff develop their skills in supporting pupil needs and work directly to develop pupils in group and one-to-one sessions.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to have a significant impact on the developmental trajectory of young people moving through secondary and higher education into employment and successful adulthood. Through regular and sustained input over years you will help our young people to understand and address their SLCN needs and enable them to develop genuine confidence in their ability to communicate effectively.
We’re expecting you will have an interest in and a proven track record of working with young people with a broad range of neurodevelopmental conditions: Developmental Language Disorder, Autism, Moderate Learning Difficulties, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder as well as Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties.
It goes without saying that you will also have excellent observational and communication skills and a creative and flexible approach to work.
Multi-disciplinary working is key to the success of our school so being a team player is a must-have attribute as you will find yourself working alongside our Senco, pastoral staff and educationalists as well as external professionals.
As well as assessing and working with young people with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs, you will be required to:
1. Lead in the development of a whole-school communication-friendly environment.
2. Set termly communication targets and provide input to provision maps based on Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes and B Squared data.
3. Provide therapy in the form of direct therapy for individuals and groups.
4. Prepare speech and language programmes to be implemented by staff.
5. Organise and run workshops for parents.
6. Liaise and work closely with Senco, parents and other professionals.
7. Contribute to the delivery of training for school staff and parents.
8. Contribute to team audits and to the development of policies/procedures.
9. Demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.
10. Demonstrate effective organisational skills.
11. Have a current driving licence and have access to a car.
Specific Requirements
1. Acute healthcare: 1 year.
2. HCPC registration.
3. Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists membership.
