BUSINESS UNIT AND ROLE OVERVIEW
The Alternatives business within Goldman Sachs Asset Management is the primary center for our long-term principal investing activity. The group invests in real estate, equity, and credit strategies. Founded in 1986, and formerly known as Merchant Banking, the team has invested across a number of geographies, industries, and transaction types. With 24 offices in 15 countries around the world, the group is one of the largest managers of private capital globally, offering deep expertise and long-standing relationships with companies, investors, entrepreneurs, operating partners, and financial intermediaries around the globe.
YOUR IMPACT
* London based lawyer within the legal division supporting the Alternatives business in EMEA with a strong emphasis on transaction support.
* Primarily focused on corporate and infrastructure investing, working as part of a wider team that supports the Alternatives business.
* Providing transactional advice during the life cycle of an investment, including:
o Deal inception, structuring, negotiation of deal documentation, review of diligence, and regulatory and reputational issues.
o Ongoing portfolio management and platform support for existing investments, including incidents/escalations and litigation.
* Involvement in regulatory and other projects that affect the Alternatives business.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
* Corporate lawyer, with transaction experience in M&A and private equity.
* Good team player, dynamic and capable of working proactively with initiative on a wide range of issues in a fast-paced environment.
* 4-7 years post qualification experience.
* Previous in-house experience (including on secondment) is helpful.
* European cross-border transaction experience is also helpful.
* Familiarity with funds (including structures) is also helpful.
