There may be, onoccasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent uponfactors such as workload and staffing levels: a. Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample b. Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols & training c. Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical IT system d. The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples e. Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies f. Safe and effective use of the centrifuge machine to preserve samples forlater collection g. Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a correct and timely manner h. Maintaining an effective liaison with the NHS Trust laboratory and currierstaff i. Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance whennecessary for patient related matters j. Reporting all incidents and anomalies to management team k.
