Waites Recruitment Consultancy LTD are seeking a Quantity Surveyor for a client based in Bedford on a full time basis. Job purpose To pro-actively manage the production of commercial information throughout the duration of a project and/or roll out program. To ensure that sufficient funds are allowed, in order to deliver the project on time, safely, profitably and to customer satisfaction. To identify and drive opportunities for improvement in customer service, safety, quality and profitability Duties and responsibilities Fully understand the terms and implications of project contracts or framework agreements and ensure that project costs reflect these. Produce an accurate scope and bill of quantities for each project. Prepare project costs using agreed Schedules of Rates, built up net costs, sub-contractors quotes and agreed mark-up for general overhead, indirect overhead, direct overhead, risk and profit. Identify and implement opportunities to improve safety, quality, profit and customer satisfaction Ensure that information is produced in line with pre-agreed timelines or to timescales that. Facilitate successful project delivery in the absence of these. Identify and highlight risk and work with the project team to eliminate / reduce this. Ensure that customer instructions are received to timescales that facilitate successful project delivery. Ensure that sub-contract and purchase orders are issued accurately, on time and to reflect that nature of the project contract. Maintain a full understanding of the developing project and amend costs to reflect this, ensure that variation information is issued and approved to timescales that facilitate successful project delivery. Attend site meetings as required. Prepare and agree interim valuations with the customer or their agents in a timely manner. Prepare accurate project Cost Value Reconciliations and report these at staged valuations and final account. Pro-actively monitor and negotiate sub-contract variations to agreement Prepare and agree project Final Accounts. Negotiate amendments to contract where necessary. Qualifications & skills Ideally Degree qualified, although RICS accreditation is not necessary it would be an advantage. Alternatively working towards Degree Qualification though Post Graduate learning. Minimum requirement HND in Quantity Surveying / Construction Management Skills will include; A practical and logical mind and a methodical way of thinking; a creative and innovative approach to problem solving. Ability to plan their work, and that of others, to achieve deadlines. Strong numeracy and financial management skills and the ability to learn sophisticated design and costing IT packages. Ability to write clear and precise reports and to relate complex information in a simple way to a diverse range of people. Negotiation and teamwork skills and the ability to motivate and lead other members of the project team. Detailed knowledge of past and current building and construction technology, processes, materials, business and legal matters. Working conditions The role is generally office based although on occasion it will be necessary to visit site and attend meetings with the customer, their professional team and sub-contractors at their premises. The role will be undertaken during normal working hours although these may be extended slightly as and when deadlines dictate. Direct reports None although it is expected that the Quantity Surveyor will actively motivate and manage other members of the project team
