Job summary We are looking for a full time, hard working, highly motivated and experienced Phlebotomist to work at Milton Keynes Renal Unit. Milton Keynes Renal Unit is a Satellite Unit of Oxford Kidney Unit and provides an Outpatient Service of Haemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis and Renal Clinics for patients in Milton Keynes and some part of Buckinghamshire. Main duties of the job To take venous bloods safely from patients on the outpatient Clinic and dialysis unit if needed. To check the identity of the patient, ensure than any special instructions have been followed (e.g. period of fasting) and to gain patients consent to proceed. To take venous blood of good quality using aseptic techniques and ensuring minimum of pain and discomfort to the patient. To make sure samples arrive at the labs safely To work within a team and also lone working, To work using the EPR system and ICE. To work in an efficient manner to ensure the phlebotomy work is completed in the best practical time. To obtain and keep up to date with all learning To ensure that safe working practises are maintained in the interests of both staff and patients according to Trust and Departmental policies To co-operate with strategies to reduce cross infection To make judgements regarding the viability of taking blood.
