The Newcastle and Gateshead Learning Disability Teams are happy to advertise an exciting opportunity for Band 7 Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist to work across our services.
We are a multidisciplinary community team working across the whole of Newcastle and Gateshead with individuals with complex needs. The successful post holder will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to high quality patient care, good organisational skills and be able to demonstrate prioritisation of workload. The successful candidate will be supported to offer a combination of both clinical and operational work to support service delivery in line with community transformation. Key components of the role will be to ensure the service offers a safe, caring, responsive and well-led service.
The role will include liaising with agencies such as social care, service providers, inpatient services, safeguarding, alongside a range of other agencies.
Main duties of the job
1. To be responsible for providing and coordinating a comprehensive Occupational Therapy service to service users who have a variety of complex occupational therapy needs, diverse presentations and a range of mental health conditions.
2. To deliver highly specialist evidence-based Occupational Therapy interventions within the CBU.
3. Demonstrate strong leadership and provide clinical and caseload supervision to Occupational Therapy staff and others in pathway as required.
4. To provide compassionate care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity.
5. Provide assurance to AHP Associate Director regarding adherence to professional standards for those staff for whom he/she is professionally responsible.
6. Contribute to Appraisal and Personal Development of staff.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Recognised Occupational Therapy degree or equivalent
* HCPC registered
* Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses and other relevant CPD to Masters level equivalence
* Field work educators qualification
* Registered member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists
Knowledge and experience
* Proven track record of post registration clinical experience relevant to the post
* Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, HCPC and RCOT standards and other local and national initiatives.
* Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of collaborative working across agencies and professional disciplines
* Proven ability to manage a clinical caseload in a flexible manner as required.
* Proven track record of providing professional leadership within clinical services.
* Experience of providing clinical supervision to clinical staff
Skills and Competencies
* Proven ability to carry out and provide comprehensive written assessments of individuals with complex needs
* Risk Assessment and Risk Management / Safety Planning skills
* Demonstrate an understanding of effective & appropriate treatment options including a range of evidence-based clinical approaches as identified in N.I.C.E. Guidance
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Evidence of high level of professional organisational and leadership skills
* Proven track record of acting as an effective advocate for service users and their carers
* Excellent interpersonal skills including negotiation and conflict management
