Our team provides specialistGastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy services across our 3 hospital sites(Dewsbury District Hospital, Pinderfields General Hospital and PontefractGeneral Infirmary).
Our acute inpatient work is provided on thePinderfields site with outpatient services and endoscopy provided across all 3sites.
Our consultants rotate to provide inpatientcare on the specialist inpatient gastroenterology ward. We have aGastroenterologist of the Week model providing expert advice to the rest ofthe hospital and helping to deliver urgent endoscopy services. Ourgastroenterology team provide a 24/7 GI Bleed on call service.
We provide specialist clinics for severalconditions including Hepatology, IBD, Cancer and Specialist Nutrition.
We currently provide a range of endoscopyservices including ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography).

Main duties of the job
The mainduties of the post include the following.
Endoscopy lists including variceal screening and primarytreatment.
Key member of the Hepatology MDT (multidisciplinary team)team
Outpatient clinics including Cirrhosis/ Immune liver disease/Hepatitis B/ Fatty liver disease clinics.
Provision of inpatient care to the dedicated specialty bedbase on a 1:8 Rota
Contribution to the GI bleed out of hours on-call Rota on a1:8 basis
Leadership roles within sub-specialty areas
Supervision of junior doctors and nursing staff
Urgent and Emergency Care duties including out-of-hourson-call; schedules will take due account of the provisions of working timeregulations and safe working
Support from the professional and experienced secretarialteam
Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with theTrust Framework, with at least aminimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10 PA timetable
Additional SPA or DCCtime may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidateand changing requirements of the service
Examples may include formal teachingresponsibilities or departmental leadership roles

Job responsibilities

We are excited to include in thispost some GIM (General Internal Medicine) training time for those clinicianswho are dual accredited in Hepatology and GIM.
Within the job plan for thisposition are up to 1.5 PA of DCC to General Internal Medicine (GIM), which isto enable the successful applicant to be part of the team delivering inpatientcare to general medical inpatients.
The new department of GIM, withinthe Specialty and Integrated Medicine Clinical Service Unit, will be staffed by15 dual-accredited physicians from Group 1 specialties. These consultants willwork a consultant of the week model of care on a one-in-eight Rota, providinga daily consultant ward round (4-hour duration). This is a brand-new serviceand will provide exciting opportunities for successful candidates to meet andwork with colleagues from allied specialties, be involved in servicedevelopment and quality improvement, as well as gain useful leadership andmanagement experience.
The GIM PAs in colleagues job plans will be reviewedafter two years in post, with the likelihood (subject to individual wishes andconfirmation with your line manager) of this activity being passed on as newGroup 1 specialty consultants are appointed to the organization, allowingincumbents to return that time to their department and allow them to furtherdevelop their parent specialty interests.We make a commitment that no longer than 3 years will be needed to beprovided in GIM, but we are hopeful that some colleagues will continue topartake in this Rota in the in the long term.
