Are you looking to join a thriving and successful Science Department? At King Ethelbert, our team is made up entirely of science specialists, including a Head of Department and six dedicated teachers who bring their expertise to deliver engaging lessons across all age and ability ranges, supported by a skilled science lab technician. Our students are banded according to ability at Key Stages 3 and 4, allowing for tailored teaching that meets their specific needs.
At Key Stage 3, we offer a unique, three-year bespoke curriculum that develops students' knowledge, hones their scientific skills, and fosters a genuine love for the subject. Practical work is integral to our approach, encouraging investigation and problem-solving through hands-on learning. At Key Stage 4, most students follow the AQA GCSE Combined Science Trilogy, and the department has a strong track record of success. In 2023, 46% of our students achieved grade 44 or higher, and 20% secured a grade 55 or higher.
Our Science Department is committed to offering a wide range of enriching extracurricular activities to inspire and engage students. We organise exciting trips to renowned institutions such as the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum, where students can explore real-world applications of scientific concepts. In addition, we regularly invite guest speakers and collaborate with external organisations like the RAF for outreach programs, providing unique opportunities for students to interact with professionals and gain insights into science-related careers. These experiences help to spark curiosity, broaden students' horizons, and deepen their passion for science.
Science is popular in the 6th form and the department runs level 3 BTEC Applied Science at Key Stage 5 as part of the IBCP with students last year going on to study Physics at the University of Kent. Be part of a team that nurtures top-performing science students, with 29% of our 6th formers enthusiastically engaging in advanced scientific studies. We're seeking dynamic teachers to guide them on their academic journey.
This is an exciting time to join King Ethelbert School as the school has been granted approval of the construction of brand-new, state-of-the-art facilities, including cutting-edge science laboratories, set to be completed by 2026. These modern spaces will offer an inspiring environment for both teaching and learning, equipped with the latest technology and resources to support high-quality scientific exploration.
We seek to appoint an outstanding practitioner who will be an active member of the science department. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a brilliant school in a trust at the cutting edge of educational developments gaining a national reputation for its success. A comprehensive induction programme is provided into the work of King Ethelbert School and a specific mentoring and guidance programme operates for all new entrants.
