Job Title: Senior Electronic Design Engineer
Location: Swindon (Hybrid Working - Approx 3 Days On-Site Per Week)
Salary: up to £65,000 + benefits
Job Purpose
Working as part of a talented team of engineers you will be key to developing our next generation of embedded automation solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to work as part of a team on complex electronics/software projects being a key member and driving force in the detailed design of systems for high reliability operation in a hostile environment.
You will work with the Project Manager, Product Manager and/or other stakeholders to develop technical specifications then realise the product and support its release to the end user.
Job Context
1. Use good engineering practice to design new and modify existing products
2. Analyse scope and requirements, identify and solve problems
3. Where required take responsibility for the entire product life cycle, including specification, architecture, design, validation, production release and customer support for released products
4. Provide innovative solutions to technical problems
5. Work within an agile multi-disciplined team
6. Be a key participant of design reviews
7. Support change management, testing, fault finding, prototype and production build
8. Provide end user support for both new and existing products
9. Technical liaison within and outside the business
10. Responsible for supporting team members
Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver agreed work packages on time and to the agreed quality/standards
2. Coordinate and deliver in cooperation with other project teams
3. Assist with project planning and reporting
Skills
1. Analyse the scope and requirements
2. Interpret industry standards (BS/ISO/IEC/IEEE)
3. Interpret and/or contribute to requirements and specifications
4. The ability to work with software engineers to design and debug systems
5. Project Management
6. Mentoring or leadership
Essential Knowledge
1. Experience of a general electronics design environment in which processor-controlled devices have been developed
2. Experience in a range of technologies including digital, analogue and power electronics
3. Experienced in writing design documents and test procedures
4. Design and build of hardware electronic systems including packaging
5. Familiarity with CAD packages for schematic capture and PCB artwork design
6. Environmental testing and EMC
Desirable Knowledge
1. CAD software
2. Experience of communications protocols such as DNP3, IEC-101/104, TCP/IP, MODBUS
3. Knowledge of MV distribution systems and switchgear
4. Embedded Software
Qualifications
A good degree in a relevant subject (Electronics/Science/Engineering or equivalent), and a minimum of 5 years hands-on engineering experience.
