This is a full time 10 Programmed Activities per week/ 37.5 hours appointment to the terms and conditions of service for doctors in public health medicine and community health service and hospital medical and dental staff England and Wales or on NHS Agenda for Change terms and conditions of service if from a non-medical background (Band 9).
The salary for this post will be to the point of the consultant medical salary scale for England appropriate to your years of seniority or Agenda for Change band 9 if from a non-medical background. For further information please see NHS Terms and Conditions of Service Handbook.

Main duties of the job
The role of Deputy Director in Healthcare Public Health for the South East Region is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of public health professionals working to improve health by delivering evidence-based public health advice. The Deputy Director for Healthcare Public Health provides local leadership of the NHS healthcare public health system, on behalf of the Regional Director.
The Deputy Director contributes to improving and protecting the public health through: championing prevention and reducing demand in healthcare, improving efficiency and value in healthcare, and identifying and reducing inequalities.
The postholder will be an experienced leader adept at working with colleagues in different parts of the health system and beyond, building partnerships to improve health. Leading a team of ~13 people, including six consultants in public health, the post-holder will develop overall strategy, identify future challenges and promote good relationships between NHSE, ICBs, local authorities, OHID and UKHSA. The work will include supporting the 'left shift' of NHS services from sickness to prevention and from hospital to home. The work will also cover providing high quality support on dental public health, specialised commissioning, and health and justice.

Qualifications
* In line with legislation, inclusion in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List or inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists at the point of application.
* If included in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in a specialty other than public health medicine/dental public health, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health practice.
* Public health specialty registrar applicants who are not yet on the GMC Specialist Register, UKPHR register or GDC Specialist List in dental public health must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry to a register at the date of interview.
* If an applicant is UK trained in Public Health, they must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. If an applicant is non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
* Applicants must meet minimum CPD requirements (i.e. be up to date) in accordance with Faculty of Public Health requirements or other recognised body MFPH by examination, by exemption or by assessment, or equivalent.
Knowledge and Experience
* High level understanding of epidemiology and statistics, public health practice, health promotion, health economics and health care evaluation.
* Knowledge of methods of developing clinical quality assurance, quality improvement and evidence based clinical and/or public health practice.
* Understanding of NHS and local government cultures, structures and policies.
* Understanding of social and political environment.
* Understanding of interfaces between health and social care.
* Significant strategic experience of leadership for healthcare public health at senior level.
* Staff management and training at senior level.
* Practical experience in facilitating change at senior level.
* Scientific publications, presentation of papers at conferences, seminars etc.
