An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 8a Specialist Nurse for the Welsh Neuropsychiatry Service, based in Hafan y Coed, University Hospital Llandough.
The overriding purpose of the Specialist Nurse role is to provide professional and clinical leadership and support nursing staff regarding the care of patients within Cardiff and Vale UHB. Post-holders will be responsible for all elements of the nursing services related to their area of responsibility, and will manage the Ash Ward Manager and Day/Community manager as well as a complex caseload of their own.
The Welsh Neuropsychiatry Service is a specialist tertiary mental health service for people who have suffered a serious acquired brain injury, and provides a comprehensive resource for the assessment, investigation, management and rehabilitation for those suffering with neuropsychiatric, cognitive, emotional and behavioural difficulties as a result of that injury.
Main duties of the job
The Welsh Neuropsychiatry Service is commissioned by the NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee (NWJCC), which is a joint committee of the seven Health Boards acting collectively on their behalf. The service is hosted by Cardiff and Vale UHB and sits within the Mental Health Clinical Board, based at Hafan Y Coed, University Hospital Llandough.
The service is comprised of:
* 10 bedded inpatient specialist rehabilitation service plus one longer term placement
* A Day and Community Service operating from the same site providing a structured programme of MDT assessment and neuropsychiatric rehabilitation. There is a focus to deliver intervention closer to home to support recovery and adjustment
Patients seen in this service represent the most complex in behavioural, emotional and neuropsychiatric need and we aim to optimise physical, cognitive, communication and occupational recovery within a person centred and inter-disciplinary approach, working closely with other services and the patient's support networks.
The highly specialist MDT comprises representation from a full complement of disciplines including medical, nursing, psychology, speech & language therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, rehabilitation support team and dedicated administration support.
