As a Lead Control Automation System Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the requirement, design, implementation, and development of the digital control system of the HVDC Control & Protection system.
As part of this role, you will work closely across various engineering disciplines within the HVDC business.
The role involves collaboration with the solution and engineering centre (NPI, ITO, OTR, and Product Care) in all aspects of HVDC Control & Protection system, including developing organisational talent and engineering process management, providing technical guidance and mentoring, driving consistent design practices, and ensuring common global processes for project implementation.
Job Description
As a Senior Lead Control Automation System Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the requirement, design, implementation, and development of the digital control system of the HVDC Control & Protection system.
Roles and Responsibilities
Overseeing the overall technical solution that meets customer requirements based on reference solutions. This includes:
* Leading overall requirement, design, implementation, and testing of the digital control system of the HVDC Control & Protection system, including network & Cybersecurity design.
* Configuring IEC61850 IEDs via vendor-specific tools and system configuration tools for complete system integration.
* Generating Substation Configuration description Language (SCL) files for system integration.
* Implementing sequencing & interlocking principles used in substation automation systems on IEC61850 IEDs.
* Designing, configuring, and testing to deliver the HVDC Control System hardware on time and within defined budgets.
* Testing and debugging complex IEC61850 communication systems using industry-standard tools such as IEDScout and Wireshark.
* Coordinating and interfacing the HVDC Control System with Balance of Plant equipment and SCADA systems.
* Defining the main IO lists of the control system.
* Analyzing signal interfaces and ensuring compatibility with the control system.
* Collaborating with NPI teams to configure Remote Terminal Units (RTU), Bay Controllers (BCU), and Merging Units for signal acquisition in digital substation environments.
* Designing LAN networks / communication architectures and configuring industrial Ethernet switches / routers and satellite clocks.
* Following department standard design practices, engineering reviews, and guidelines.
* Defining control panel requirements and producing detailed design documentation for the control system.
* Overseeing the testing and FAT witnessing of the Control System.
* Preparing and presenting technical information for Substation Control Systems to internal and external customers.
* Assisting site activities relevant to the installation and commissioning of the control system.
* Coaching and developing department talent.
* Continuously improving the product in terms of delivery speed, stability, and reliability.
* Reviewing and approving design documents, implementing, and ensuring quality deliverables on time and within targeted costs.
Required Qualifications
* Degree in Electronics/Electrical engineering or related field.
* Excellent background in configuring Substation Bay Controllers/Merging Units/IEC61850 IEDs/HMI/SCADA technologies.
* Extensive experience in control and protection system design.
* Knowledge of industrial communication networks such as IEC61850 and Ethernet-based protocols.
* Control & Protection Relay logics design techniques.
* Experience in developing electrical designs for industrial control systems.
* Knowledge of communication network security/hardening and cybersecurity best practices.
* Knowledge of commonly used Layer 2 & 3 protocols.
* Experience relevant to electrical power systems and substation automation engineering.
* Working knowledge of industrial and utility electrical control and protection systems and digital control systems.
