Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, flexible Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our growing innovative and supportive Adult SALT team. The successful candidate will work in an outpatient setting receiving referrals from ENT, Specialist laryngology Voice Clinics and Respiratory clinics. The role will involve offering interventions for voice and upper airways disorders, including laryngeal hypersensitivity and chronic cough. You will work in a 1:1 or group setting and will have support and supervision from highly specialist senior colleagues to develop your skills in these areas. There will be opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in house via support and supervision from senior specialist colleagues in voice and upper airways disorders. You will work as part of the voice therapy team, with well-established SLT led and multidisciplinary voice clinic services including a specialist voice clinic for performers and singers. You will have support from therapists in the Joint Upper Airways and Severe Asthma clinics to develop skills with this caseload. The service is well respected and has excellent links with ENT and Respiratory colleagues, and you will work as part of a wider multidisciplinary team. Main duties of the job 1. Undertake assessment of patients, using specialist clinical reasoning and assessment techniques to differentially diagnose then formulate and implement treatment plans with advice and support from seniors as required.2. Continually evaluate the efficacy of the treatment programme to ensure that it is meeting the needs of the patient3. Monitor the effectiveness of the interventions you are providing using outcome measures.4. Work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team - attending meetings/case conferences where possible, actively encouraging information sharing to enhance the quality of care to patients and staff.5. Ensure effective communication with patients, carers and other Health Care Professionals regarding all aspects of the patient's care. This will be achieved through direct liaison or written information using specialist knowledge, tailored to individual needs and taking account of impaired comprehension and expression.6. Help other Health Care Professionals communicate with patients who have impaired language skills using alternative communication systems where appropriate.7. Advise assist and support, less experienced therapists and assistants in the management of their caseload.8. Work closely with Community staff to facilitate a seamless rehabilitation service across the city.9. Carry out videofluoroscopy with senior S.L.T. developing skills to analyse and report findings.10. Undertake research as requested by team leader.
