Support Officer to an Opposition Group Leader
Role Responsibility
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, well-organised individual to provide support to an Opposition Group leader.
As the successful applicant, you will be confident carrying out horizon scanning activity, including keeping up to date with national and local developments, and proactively identifying and researching arising issues and opportunities. This will be in addition to undertaking research and analysis ahead of committee meetings as directed by the Opposition Group Leader.
You must therefore have exceptional organisational skills and the ability to effectively manage your time and prioritise work to ensure deadlines are met in a demanding environment.
As the Support Officer to an Opposition Group Leader you need to be able to work under your own initiative, have excellent communication skills and the ability to establish positive working relationships with staff, elected Members, and other professionals.
As the role will involve elements of diary management, liaising with the public and minute taking, you must also be confident performing administrative duties.
You will work as part of a team of three Opposition Group Leader Support Officers. Each Officer primarily supports one of the current Opposition Group Leaders and there may be the opportunity to work for different Group Leaders as part of your career development.
As a Support Officer to an Opposition Group Leader, you will be required to work in a politically neutral manner. This is a politically restricted post, meaning post holders are restricted from undertaking any form of political activity.
Applicants must include a reason for applying for shortlisting purposes, with specific emphasis on their experience of research and analysis, understanding of KCC and its political processes, and provision of executive support. Please ensure you answer the 'how you meet the requirements of the role' question.
This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
This post is subject to a Basic Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
A short written task is to be carried out and submitted prior to the interview and will form part of the selection process.
Interviews to be held in the afternoon on the 23rd January 2025.
