Financial institutions are accelerating action on the challenges posed by nature loss and the opportunity of transitioning to a nature positive future. The purpose of this role is to support and guide these financial institutions as they integrate nature into their operational model, products and financial decisions. It is a unique opportunity to collaborate with leaders in this field, defining the future of financial services by working with leading financial institutions on their nature integration journey and connecting them with the technical excellence and innovation for which The Biodiversity Consultancy (TBC) is renowned.
The successful candidate will play a key role managing projects and client relationships and delivering high quality work across nature-related impact and financial materiality analysis, policy evolution, engagement planning, target setting and capacity building. We are looking for someone with consulting experience that is reliable, diligent and thoughtful, has strong visual and written communication skills and the ability to present insights in a visually compelling fashion. Familiarity with nature-related data and reporting standards and experience working within or for the financial sector are strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
* Manage and deliver projects for leading global financial institutions, primarily banks and investment managers, on-budget and to a high standard
* Collaboratively design and execute leading-edge approaches to mapping the interface between finance and nature and integrating nature into finance
* Develop proposals for new and existing clients
* Own and develop client relationships during delivery, present content to senior audiences, building strong relationships and supporting with future business development
* Develop professional networks and online presence to develop new client relationships
* Create and review external facing content such as thought leadership articles, helping to raise awareness of our expertise
The above includes but is not limited to guiding financial institutions to:
* Map and report upon their relationship to the natural world, via both their own operations and financed companies
* Evolve nature-related policies and client/ portfolio company engagement strategies
* Design nature-related strategies
* Build capacity to internalise the role of nature across their operating and business model
* Map the financial materiality of nature (e.g. financial risks posed by nature loss)
Essential skills and experience
* Personal passion for nature
* At least 5-7 years of professional experience, with at least 2-3 years working in a consulting setting
* Strong project management skills including effective and proactive management of time, budget, people
* Demonstrated ability to maintain and grow client relationships
* Strong team player, able to effectively collaborate and delegate to enable others to contribute
* Excellent presentation and writing skills (in plain English for a commercial audience)
* Able to synthesise analysis under pressure in a visually digestible format and present complex ideas in an accessible way to senior stakeholders
* Familiar with the financial sector and how major financial institutions operate
* Familiar with how sustainability has been integrated into financial institution strategy, products and operations
* Familiarity with global environmental frameworks, taxonomies and action, including TNFD, SFDR, SBTN etc.
* Experience of environmental and conservation topics
* Experience interpreting and utilising data for client-facing analysis up to senior stakeholder level
* Academic degree in an appropriate area of study or equivalent experience
We appreciate the integration of nature into the financial decisions and strategy is an emergent field and are open to a range of nature-related professional experience.
Desirable attributes
* Good understanding of relevant datasets, tools and metrics for assessing nature-related impacts, dependencies and controversies.
* High level of financial literacy, e.g. familiarity with financial concepts, products and modelling
* High level of experience with global environmental frameworks, taxonomies and action, including TNFD, SFDR, SBTN etc.
* Experience presenting and/or participating in relevant conferences
* A qualification in a relevant discipline, e.g. natural sciences, conservation
* Fluency in a language other than English
