Job Summary
The Lighting & Sound Technician is part of the Technical Team which is managed by the Technical Manager. The Technical Team includes Departments specializing in Electrics, Stage & Facilities/Maintenance. The role is responsible to the Chief Electrician.
Job Description
Key responsibilities of the job holder include:
1. Providing support for all productions, whether a visiting company or an in-house production, in the Everyman main auditorium, The Irving Studio and projects touring from the Everyman.
2. Working on get-ins, fit-ups, strikes and get-outs; loading and unloading lighting and sound equipment for visiting company trailers.
3. Rigging, focusing, plotting and operating lighting.
4. Rigging, set-up, patching, sound-checking and operating sound.
5. The preparation or hiring of sound effects and resources.
6. The preparation or hiring of lighting effects and stage electrics resources.
7. Acting as Duty Electrician & Fire Marshal in the building for performances.
8. Assisting with the stage department with scenery/props/costume loading, unloading, fitting up and striking when appropriate.
9. Assisting the Chief Electrician and Head of Sound in the maintenance and servicing of both production and building electrical equipment and installation, including testing and monitoring as required.
10. Ensuring that working areas and equipment are kept in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
11. Being a keyholder for the Everyman building (if included on the rota of staff who can be called out by security in an emergency, an additional payment is made when called-out).
12. Deputizing, as requested by the Chief Electrician, for the Chief Electrician or Head of Sound in his/her absence.
13. Proactively ensuring that the working environment and practices conform to Health and Safety legislation and the Health and Safety Policy.
14. Undertaking such other duties as may be requested from time to time by the Chief Electrician, Head of Sound or Technical Manager.
Job Requirements
Essential Skills/Person Specification:
1. One year of professional electrical experience in a middle-scale theatre, either producing or receiving. Experience of touring would also be an advantage.
2. Good working knowledge of stage electrics, sound and networking including modern patching systems.
3. Basic working knowledge of electrical theory.
4. Computer literacy.
5. The ability to work both in a team and independently.
6. The ability to manage and supervise casual staff.
7. The ability to work at heights.
8. Good physical fitness and ability to lift.
9. The ability to work under pressure.
10. Initiative.
11. Good colour vision.
12. Good communication skills.
Desired Skills:
1. Experience with ETC ION lighting control systems.
2. Experience with Yamaha QL5 Mixing Desk.
3. Experience with D&B Speakers and Amplifiers.
4. Experience with Dante Audio Networking.
5. Experience with D&B R1.
6. Knowledge of Industry Health and Safety practices and procedures.
