Strategic In conjunction with the Leadership Team, develop a medium and long-term strategy for IT development and growth in all school areas and develop a School Development Plan for IT Develop and implement a technical strategy and associated system architecture that meets the needs of current IT usage and future development needs under the medium and long-term IT strategies. Manage the IT budget in line with management plans and IT strategies and in consultation with the leadership team. Demonstrate a willingness and ability to work flexibly, sometimes outside of regular core hours, to ensure the Schools objectives are supported and that continuity of IT services are maintained. Provide comprehensive management information and reports regarding service trends and incident analysis using industry-standard metrics. Ensure an asset register is maintained and includes hardware refresh plan for all assets under the IT department's remit.? Ability to provide technical support, whilst maintaining the ability to manage IT support services ? Ability to discuss and explain technical issues to non-technical key stakeholders? Ability to adjust and adapt working practices to accommodate requirement changes? Ability to learn new technologies outside of traditional practice based on the strategic requirements? Ability to problem solve, analyse issues, make informed judgments, take appropriate action and accept responsibility for results, liaising with 3rd parties where necessary? Ability to assign work to others, whilst supporting and empowering them to undertake tasks whilst maintaining accountability? Ability to identify and meet the needs of all key stakeholders in order to deliver a high-quality service? Ability to track, review and assess new and evolving hardware technologies and make recommendations on how they should be incorporated into the school (where appropriate)? Remain fully aware of the best practices regarding new and emerging IT technologies, hardware, and software, particularly the application of IT to education and administration.
Project and Contract Management Effectively manage agreed projects and any resulting service contracts or agreements. Manage the purchase of hardware, software, consumables and external contracts effectively with approval from the school leadership team and within budget. Build effective working relationships with 3rd party providers, suppliers of maintenance and support services where appropriate to ensure the repair or maintenance of computer systems. Ensure appropriate level maintenance contracts are in place for all equipment (e.g. IT, telephones, photocopiers).
Compliance Maintain the integrity and security of the School network at all times ensure appropriate level firewall and system back-up solutions are in place. Ensure appropriate levels of compliance are met for Data Protection and GDPR compliance. Maintain current and develop and implement new standard IT policies and advise upon and monitor the Staff and Pupils Acceptable Use Policies. Ensure there is an up-to-date and well-maintained hardware and software licencing inventory. Ensure the School complies with all Health and Safety legislation regarding IT use and that IT is included in all relevant Health and safety documents, policies and procedures. Work with the staff to ensure appropriate measures are in place to balance the security and safety of pupils while allowing staff and pupils to effectively use the IT resources.
People Management Line manage and undertake staff appraisals for the IT team. Provide regular support and direction to the IT team to ensure quality of service provision and that any professional development needs are met where appropriate. Oversee the IT Technicians to provide technical support for staff and pupils. Conduct individual and group training on the use of IT resources and identify and organise the implementation of an ongoing training framework to ensure all users are able to maximise the use of IT. Be an integrated team member, working closely and supporting the helpdesk function at all other times to ensure the delivery of completed project, fault and problem solutions to the customer base. Undertake any other duties as may be required and are commensurate with the grade of the post.
Experience:
* Experience in managing, maintaining, and developing IT services and staff.
* Experience in supporting, developing and maintaining IT systems and infrastructure.
* Knowledge of current best practice, products and statutory requirements, including IT health and safety, Data Protection
Knowledge and experience managing, delivering, configuring and support of: Cyber security, GDPR and KCSIE Microsoft Server 2019 onwards Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, WSUS, MDT, PowerShell, Failover Cluster Manager Azure AD Microsoft Office 365 (Hybrid Deployment experience required) Telephony Solutions Microsoft Windows 10/11 Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager Current Branch Enterprise Operating System Deployment Microsoft Hyper-V SAN environments (Dell Equilogic) Backup Solutions (Veeam / Backup Assist preferred) A good knowledge of backup strategies such as 321 Networking (Brocade/Ruckus preferable), A good understanding of VLAN configuration and use Wireless Technology (Xirrus preferable) Basic understanding of Apple macOS, macOS Server and iOS Print Management Systems Management of CCTV and security systems
