We are currently looking for a Transport Planner (Maternity Cover) to join our team at Tarmac Birtley in Birtley, Chester-le-Street, Co Durham. This position is a fixed-term contract for 12 months providing maternity cover. The role is suitable for those in Birtley, Chester-le-Street, and within commuting distance from Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, Consett, Durham, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Darlington, South Shields, Wallsend, Longbenton, and surrounding areas.
The Transport Planner will work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, starting at 7:30 am with a 1-hour lunch break. After successful training, there is an option for hybrid working, allowing part of the week working from home.

Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Distribution Supervisor, the Transport Planner will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including internal and external stakeholders such as customers, customer service, planning, and haulage drivers. Responsibilities include:
* Handling inbound and outbound calls
* Processing customer orders
* Raising safety concerns immediately
* Proactively communicating changes
* Handling complaints
* Effective communication with stakeholders
* Accurate data recording
* Upholding company values
* Managing assets and materials effectively
* Sourcing and managing external assets
* Managing costs efficiently
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in a busy planning role and enjoy working in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment with multiple stakeholders. Candidates should also possess:
* Excellent planning and organizational skills
* Strong time management and multitasking abilities
* Proven customer service and telephone skills
* Attention to detail
* Effective stakeholder communication skills
* Teamwork capability
* Decisiveness
* Commercial awareness
* IT literacy
* Good geographical knowledge of the North East region (preferred)
* Knowledge of transport law (preferred but not essential)
