The Opportunity
The Water Research Centre (WRC) based in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering has an opportunity for a Research Associate to join and play a key role in an ARC funded Discovery Project entitled “Impact of redox condition on emerging contaminants fate”. The proposed project is interdisciplinary in nature with intensive analytical and experimental work and as such requires an experienced environmental scientist and/or engineer with a comprehensive skill set capable of microbiology (metagenomic, proteomics, antimicrobial genes (ARGs)), biogeochemistry and analytical chemistry (gas and liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry) as well as an understanding of environmental transformation of contaminants.
This position will give you the opportunity to develop your research skills and output by contributing to the writing of scientific papers and reports for international journals, participating in conferences and workshops, and actively engaging with industry partners.
This role reports to Professor Denis O’Carroll and has no direct reports.
* Salary, Level A – $110,059 to $117,718 per annum + 17% superannuation

Skills and Experience
* A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
* Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
* Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
* Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
* Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
* An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
