We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Manager – Reactor Island Mechanical Handling, to be involved in an industry leading, cutting-edge project for a new type of power station.

Job Purpose
Reporting to the Senior Manager for Installation Components, the Manager – Reactor Island Mechanical Handling is accountable for development of the fully integrated technical solutions and governance, covering the scope of the through-life Reactor Island Mechanical Handling equipment.
This role, along with other manager roles within the Installation Components team, will be responsible for the entire product scope identified across the commodity group. This is an evolving picture, and it is vital that the candidate can be a flexible and agile leader to deal with this change.
It will be the responsibility of this candidate to lead, manage and develop the team to deliver the suite of products through the entire product lifecycle and enable the team to become the design authority for this commodity group.
The candidate will be a leader within mechanical equipment design with a proven track record of delivery of large complex programmes and with a high level of aptitude for people leadership. A strategic thinker who is comfortable leading within a developing business and circumnavigating the challenges that this brings with ambiguity, changing business and customer demands and emergent business needs, demonstrating effective leadership behaviours in the face of these challenging circumstances. There is an expectation that the candidate can flex and evolve within the role, within the business and lead the team as it develops.
It is essential that the leader can build the capability within the team for this level of scope and deliver against tough demands from across the business.
The successful candidate shall lead the RI mechanical handling team supported by cross functional integration of all areas of the business required to deliver the final product into the power station delivery model and be responsible for building and maintaining the design capability required. This includes: the overall direction and governance of the programmes of work under their scope; accepting the validity of the technical solutions developed under their direction; the delivery of a robust design and safety justification, supported by detailed mechanical analysis and Design for X assessment; the integration of this solution into the overall design and development of the total engineering capability needs across mechanical handling design, for scope of responsibility. This role also plays a significant part in enabling delivery strategies to be developed, stewarding cost and programme and leading people through an exciting time within the SMR business development.
Key Results & What can be achieved in the role
1. Technically lead and drive their specified elements of the integrated development programme in line with the programme’s policies and processes and provide technical leadership and governance for product development in line with delegated authority.
2. Manage the team to deliver and provide assurance of the full scope of the through-life mechanical handling solutions across Reactor Island.
3. Own the delivery programme for their accountable scope of supply and contribute to the creation and management of suitable design milestone schedules and budgets.
4. Develop and lead the team to provide the required technical expertise across the full commodity scope to support the supply chain and procurement teams in sourcing and commodity management strategies and ensure designs are produced in line with the standardisation policy.
5. Develop design and product cost estimates, manage the wider technical attributes for their scope and contribute to the associated Installation Components opportunity and risk registers.
6. Ensure SQEP within the workforce by developing robust training plans for members of the team and ensuring succession planning for the team.
7. Ensure the manufacturing, materials and chemistry, V&V and supply chain strategies are developed to support the products.
8. Lead development of the team to act as the intelligent customer and the design authority including people, processes and tools are in place.
9. Own the design configuration of products within area of accountability, integrated with the wider programme.
10. Deliver and own engineering substantiation and safety cases for agreed scope.

Key Selection Criteria
Criteria 1: Demonstrable experience/expertise of design, manufacture, operation, and maintenance of mechanical handling equipment in a Nuclear Power plant
Experience of the whole product lifecycle of mechanical handling equipment is needed to enable an ability to lead. Ideally the candidate has multiple examples of product development experience and experience of leading and developing the product development programmes at various stages of the project maturity stages.
Criteria 2: Nuclear Safety Case
Experience of supporting the development of a conventional and nuclear safety case including :
* Hazard identification and fault schedule development
* Nuclear safety functional requirement definition and categorisation
* Nuclear classification of safety measures
Criteria 3: Cross functional and multi disciplined leadership and coordination to deliver products.
Knowledge of cross functional business collaboration needed to deliver a product is important to coach and lead the team and ensure the design and development programme supports the delivery demand of the products within the scope of the role. This is especially applicable to manufacturing and procurement allowing the candidate to work with, influence and direct other parts of the business to achieve successful design development and delivery of the product.
Criteria 4: Supply chain management, including:
* Documentation (Requests for Information, Statements of Work etc.)
* Management of sub-contracted work packages.
Criteria 5: Leadership and management of a team, including:
* Definition of resource needs.
* Recruitment.
* Development and management of personnel to meet individual and business objective
Pay and Benefits
• Salary - £57,600 - £75,600
• A performance related bonus of up to 12.5%,
• An attractive pension scheme with 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
