Managing Surveyor – £80m New Build Scheme\n\n Southampton | Permanent | Up to £95,000 + Car Allowance + Bonus + Package\n\nA £1bn+ turnover main contractor with a reputation for quality, stability, and delivering major projects across the UK is looking to appoint a Managing Surveyor to take the commercial lead on a landmark £80 million new build student accommodation scheme in Southampton.\n\nThis is a standout opportunity to join a highly respected contractor on a long-term, high-value project with real visibility and impact.\n\nThe Project:\n\n£80m new build student accommodation\n\nLarge-scale, technically complex scheme with high-quality design and sustainability targets\n\nLocated in central Southampton\n\nProgramme running over multiple phases, offering long-term involvement\n\nThe Role:\n\nAs Managing Surveyor, you’ll take full commercial ownership of the scheme from early stages through to final account. You’ll lead a dedicated commercial team, manage subcontractor procurement, reporting, cost control, and ensure the financial success of the project in line with business expectations.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nOversee all commercial aspects of the project lifecycle\n\nLead a team of project surveyors, offering mentorship and strategic direction\n\nDrive procurement strategy and value engineering exercises\n\nMaintain detailed cost reports, forecasts, and risk assessments\n\nInterface with operations, design, and client teams to support project delivery\n\nReport directly into a Regional Commercial Director\n\nWhat We're Looking For:\n\nProven experience in a Senior or Managing QS role with a Tier 1 or established main contractor\n\nStrong contractual knowledge (JCT/Design & Build)\n\nExperience on high-value residential, student accommodation, or mixed-use schemes\n\nExcellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills\n\nA proactive, detail-focused mindset with a drive for delivery and accountability\n\nWhat’s On Offer:\n\nSalary up to £95,000 depending on experience\n\nCar or car allowance\n\nDiscretionary bonus\n\nPension, private healthcare, and additional benefits\n\nLong-term project with real career growth within a financially secure, family-owned business\n\nThis is a permanent role with long-term prospects, working for a contractor known for looking after its people and delivering projects that stand the test of time.\n\nApply now for a confidential conversation about this role
