Anexciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Paediatrician to join oursmall, friendly and dedicated Community Paediatric service based at our ChildDevelopment Centre in Halton.
Theborough of Halton includes both areas of Widnes and Runcorn which are connectedvia the new Mersey Gateway Bridge. The team deliver services to children, youngpeople and their families from various locations across the borough to bestserve the local population including new Health Hubs, new Family Hubs, GPPractices and Clinics.
ThisConsultant role in Community Paediatrics is to provide a high-quality servicesupporting Children and Young People to receive assessment, investigation,diagnosis and appropriate support to optimise their quality of life.
TheConsultant role in Community Paediatrics is part of a well-established team ofConsultants, Specialty Grade Doctors, GP plus, GP with Extended Role andSpecialist Nurses and Specialist Speech and Language Therapists who provide ahigh-quality service supporting Children and Young People to receiveassessment, investigation, diagnosis and appropriate support to optimise theirquality of life where there are neurodevelopmental or neurodisability concerns.
Wehave a Paediatric Registrar and Medical Student on rotation who benefit fromthe training and learning opportunities available. There is no requirement for a ChildProtection medical service currently
Main duties of the job
Job Purpose:
The Consultant will have responsibility for children withlong-term neurodevelopmental disorders and neuro-disabilities, including ASDand ADHD, developmental disorders, complex and special educational needs,behaviour difficulties of a neurodevelopmental nature, sensory and physicaldifficulties, amongst other conditions.
The service does not provide child protection medical assessments;however, the Consultant would be expected to engage in safeguarding activitywhere necessary. It is anticipated that the Consultant would take on lead role(s) to complement the current roles within the Department and in keeping withtheir particular interests if possible.
The Bridgewater Community Doctors (Halton and Warrington)support each other and meet for shared learning opportunities.
As Consultant you will have appropriate Secretarial support,IT facilities and office space. Bridgewater uses SystmOne astheir patient management system.
Themulti-professional team have well-established links with the wider childrensworkforce across the Borough, including the Halton Family Hubs, Health Visitingand School Nursing, Paediatric Therapy services, Childrens Social Care, MentalHealth services and the local Hospital Paediatric team in addition to localparent / carer forums.
Wealso have close links and meet regularly with our Warrington CommunityPaediatric Colleagues for learning opportunities and sharing of Clinical Leadroles.

Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical
To undertake Consultantled clinics and to provide support to more junior doctors. This includes integrated working witheducation and social services staff and the provision of paediatric advice asrequired
In conjunction with colleagues toprovide specialist paediatric assessment of children referred where there areconcerns regarding neurodevelopmental problems or disability including thosewith social communication or developmental behaviour problems.
To provide clinical assessment,investigation and management of children referred to the service, working withother members of the team to determine the most appropriate method ofassessment and intervention.
To take Consultant medicalresponsibility for children attending special school
To provide clinical support, asappropriate, for clinicians providing Community Paediatric and Child HealthServices including nursing and professional allied to medicine.
To be part of the multidisciplinaryassessment and diagnosis process for children referred to the service,including Autistic Spectrum Disorder, ADHD and other clinical conditionsincluding occasional attendance at relevant pathway and operational group meetings
To be involved in provision of adviceand outcome focused information for those who require Education Health and CarePlans
To provide high quality caseloadmanagement including high quality case records, ensuring adherence toprofessional best practice.
Partnerships
To carry out responsibilities, as a consultant,for children with neurodevelopmental difficulties and to work in closeco-operation with local authority staff and other clinical colleagues
To promote close collaboration betweencommunity paediatrics, hospital paediatric services and Child and AdolescentMental Health Services
To work in partnership with Educationand Social Services colleagues to ensure child health needs are effectively met

AuditResearch and Professional Development
To offer professional advice to theClinical Director, Bridgewater Medical Director, Trust Board and partneragencies on areas of responsibility as required.
To take part in service planning andservice development in conjunction with the Clinical Director in Paediatrics,the Assistant Director and Clinical Manager for Child & Family Services,other Senior Clinicians and Managers to provide an efficient surveillancescreening and prevention for children.
To continue with his/her professionaldevelopment and maintain good standing with the Royal College of Paediatricsand Child Health.
To participate in identifyingindividual developmental needs through appraisal and professional developmentplanning, including job planning.
To take part in appraisal and jobplanning of junior medical staff when required by the Clinical Director
To be involved in the clinicalmanagement and administration of the Community Paediatric service when required
To take a lead role in implementationof national guidance and auditing with respect to a specialist area of interestand to compliment the development of the service
To participate in own departmentalaudits and supervise junior staff in audit.
To encourage appropriate researchwithin the Service supported by the Trust.
Training & Teaching
To participate in the training ofNurses, Therapists, Education and Social Services staff and voluntary groupsand other staff as appropriate.
To participate in medical andpostgraduate training when required by the organisation
To undertake safeguarding training atlevel 4, which will include the training required at levels 1-3.
Accountability and Review
The Consultant Community Paediatricianis responsible to the Clinical Director in Community Paediatrics andaccountable to Bridgewater Medical Director and ultimately to the TrustBoard. Appropriate job plans will bereviewed / agreed with the Consultant on an annual basis by the ClinicalDirector
