Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our Building Standards team at Stirling Council. We are seeking a motivated and driven individual with good values and a genuine interest in building standards and the built environment.
We are looking to recruit an experienced Building Standards Surveyor who will carry out all aspects of the building standards function. This will include building warrant assessments, compiling reports, site inspections, dealing with dangerous buildings, enforcement, safety at sports grounds and also provide advice to agents, developers, and customers. You will possess good written and verbal communications skills and also be capable of assessing complex projects.
You should be eligible or working towards obtaining chartered membership of the RICS, CABE or equivalent and possess at least 5 years’ experience in building standards. You must also possess an in-depth knowledge of the building regulations and all other legislation associated with the building standards role.
You must have a good standard of written and spoken English, good digital skills, be able to prioritise and manage workload effectively, work well under pressure and as part of a team, and demonstrate a customer-focused approach.
Your responsibilities will include assisting the Building Standards Team leader/Co-Ordinator in the day-to-day operation of the building standards service and to contribute to the successful delivery of Council and service targets, the National Performance Framework criteria and the overall service performance.
Where relevant experience in building standards is not met, consideration will be given to those with extensive practical construction experience in related professions such as building surveying and architecture where evidence and knowledge of construction science and legislative procedures can be demonstrated.
