A specific task to prepare an ornate alter (singhasan) for the deities installed within the Temple.
An opportunity has arisen for a fixed four-month contract for a Metal Artisan, with experience in sculpting metals on to a wooden singhasan, in a Swaminarayan (Hindu) place of worship. As the location will be a Swaminarayan temple, candidates will be required to abide strictly with Swaminarayan religious practices when engaged in their work.
Duties and responsibilities:
• Work with the local carpentry team and wood artisans to prepare sheeting for fusion and affixation to the singhasan structure. Using Vedic crafting and sculpting techniques to achieve a quality finish.
• Prepare metal sheeting to required measurements and specifications for the wood artisans to complete the affixation.
• Perform quality checks on metal finishes and ensure that the fusion process is to the required specification to ensure a quality/ fault free finish.
• Use tools and fusion/ press machinery as may be required to ensure the metal sheets meeting the design requirements.
• Maintain a safe working environment and ensure compliance with health and safety requirements, including maintaining COSHH records of any chemicals used in the process.
Required experience & qualification:
• Proven experience in similar work either in the UK or abroad. Previous experience in similar work in relation to the Swaminarayan sect, with testimonials and references, will be required.
• Experience in operating plate pressing machinery.
• Fusion of metals to meet requirement of the employer.
• Through understanding of Swaminarayan and Vedic techniques.
Number required:
3 artisans to complete project to timescales as required. Having worked in teams before would be a particular advantage.
