The research and development group is essential to our mission of building the world's best data storage technologies. You will work as part of an established team reporting to the Research & Development Manager defining and driving leading edge development for future data storage technologies and products. The Advanced Reader Process Development group is responsible for providing the next generation of readback sensors. About the role - you will:
Leveraging our high-tech wafer fabrication facility in Derry UK, with state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and design tools, you will be part of the research and development team responsible for Seagate’s future HDD products. This will involve close collaboration with other development teams at Seagate wafer sites, and with product and design teams. Full and detailed build, test and characterization of devices will be required, with ongoing and detailed analysis of reader parametric performance.
You will:
1. Develop and deploy wafer-level toolkit tests for fundamental materials studies and process module/wafer performance and health monitoring.
2. Design novel test structures, execute CAD, wafer integration and electrical test proof-of-concept demos.
3. Iterative optimisation to mature test structure functionality, accuracy and sensitivity.
4. Work to advance capability of current probe/test equipment and engage with equipment vendors to define, demo and procure next generation of probe/test equipment.
5. Perform analysis of wafer data, failure analysis and characterization to quantify process capability.
6. Monitor trends in wafer probe data to set process specs, identify and work with the wider team to resolve process excursions.
About you:

Your experience includes:
1. Educational background should be in physics, electrical engineering, material science, or a related field, including a PhD/MSc degree with 0-2 years of experience.
2. Expertise in nano device physics including magnetics, transport properties and electronics.
3. Lab experimentation including proficiency with lab test electronics and data collection software environments.
4. Experience with wafer level device build and test including use of CAD and DispView, JMP, 4-pt probe, wafer probe and advanced magnetic device test equipment such as SQUID, PPMS.
