How you'll make a difference
Vinney Green Secure Children’s Home offers young people a safe, caring environment, where they will experience quality care, education, vocational and life skills training. As part of our educational leadership team, you will play a key role in maintaining and developing an inclusive environment for young people to learn and develop skills.
We would welcome applications from teachers with experience across a range of settings, secondary, SEMH and/or further education.
What will you be doing?
* Working alongside our Head of Education, you will monitor the quality of both teaching and learning, helping to continue to raise standards within the home.
* It will be key for you to review and plan timetabling and staffing to ensure that a range of curriculum and vocational opportunities are offered to young people.
* Weekly, you will attend risk, incident and operation review meetings to ensure the home continues to provide effective education for young people.
* Where required, you will attend sentence review and planning meetings.
* You will maintain an effective partnership with care staff and other colleagues within the home to support each pupil’s learning.
* Occasionally, you will help organise special events within the home such as guest speakers and themed days.
What we need from you
* It is essential that you have qualified teacher status, with a high level of understanding of curriculum issues including current alternative curriculum provision.
* Given the nature of the role, you will be an excellent classroom practitioner with substantial teaching experience within a variety of educational settings.
* You must have strong knowledge of current practice in effective behaviour management and experience of working with pupils who may have emotional and behavioural difficulties.
* You will have experience of effective management, inspiring confidence and motivating staff.
Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post.
Things we need you to know:
* The salary is plus a Secure Unit allowance of £2,583 per annum.
* The Home is a secure, closed facility and movement is governed by the controlled unlocking of electronic doors. The environment can become tense and anxiety provoking, given that the young people are detained. Young people can present physically threatening behaviour and surveillance cameras are used in most areas of the building.
* Vinney Green Secure Children’s Home is a no smoking environment and there is no provision to facilitate smoking.
* This post is subject to the successful completion of the physical intervention training course, provided by the Home.
