The Role
As a Range Control Manager, you will have a role that is out of the ordinary. You will be responsible for closely monitoring and assessing key defence trails which support our Test and Evaluation (T&E) capability across air, land and sea weapon danger areas. Your role will focus on safe and effective range operation across both dynamic and static trials. You will take a holistic approach to problem solving, working with Team Leaders and others to ensure effective and safe delivery across multiple range activities.
Day-to-day, you will:
1. Monitor a range of camera and marine radar surveillance systems within our control room, for all aspects of trials work for trials and proof activities
2. Advise stakeholders to ensure the safe utilisation of Weapon Danger Areas (WDA) for live firing and trials
3. Support all aspects of range safety during dynamic and static trials in accordance with by-laws and local regulations
4. Make safety critical decisions and spot checks for all aspects of trials work
5. Review Range Standing Orders and Range Hazard Logs with the Range Safety Officer
6. Provide essential planning and management for trials including; emergency and evacuation planning, weather and noise forecasting and acoustic monitoring
This role is full-time, 37 hours per week and fully on-site at our EskmealsRange.
Essential experience of the Range Control Manager:
7. Demonstrable stakeholder engagement experience
8. Previous experience of supervision, leadership or management
9. A proven ability to use and learn relevant IT and Software Systems
10. Previous experience operating within the military, weapons’ systems or trials environments
11. Proven experience in a role that demonstrates an awareness of safety or relevant technical training such as NEBOSH, IOSH or trials safety
