Job overview
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Nurse who is looking to expand their role and train to become a Nurse Specialist in Nuclear Medicine.
Based in the Radiology Directorate, Nuclear Medicine is an out-patient department with a presence at both the RVI and Freeman Hospital sites. We use radioactive materials for the diagnosis and treatment of disease, as well as delivering a busy DEXA service, and see over 12,000 patients per year. We are a close-knit, multi-disciplinary team made up of clinical technologists, scientists, admin and clerical staff, radiologists and nurses. We currently have three nurse specialists (including this post) and two radiographic assistants in the team. Line management is provided within the department and professional support and leadership is through the Matron for Main Outpatient Departments.

Main duties of the job
The role of our nursing team is wide-ranging. They are at the forefront of our patient centred service, supporting patients and their relatives throughout their time in the department and take an active role in carrying out our varied clinical investigations. Supported by the rest of the team, nurses lead and direct our infection control, health and safety and patient experience strategies..
In addition to these general duties, our nurses lead pharmaceutical stress testing sessions for patients undergoing myocardial perfusion studies. Under close monitoring, the pharmaceutical allows us to mimic conditions which might induce ischaemia in patients suffering from shortness of breath and chest pains. A radiopharmaceutical is then administered allowing us to generate functional images of heart under these extreme conditions
You will join an experienced and knowledgeable Radiology Nursing team who work across site between the Freeman Hospital and Royal Victoria Infirmary Interventional Radiology Departments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Freeman Hospital is a tertiary referral centre for supra-regional, regional and sub-regional surgical specialities including the Northern Centre for Cancer Care and the UK’s only Institute of Transplantation. Specialties at the Royal Victoria Infirmary include the Level 1 Trauma care, The Great North Children's Hospital, Gastroenterology, Gynaecology, and Cancer Services. Within both sites the dedicated Nuclear Medicine team deliver specialist services to patients on the wards and to outpatients.
The role requires working as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high quality service using a patient centred approach. Your main duties across site will involve the assessment, monitoring and care of patients undergoing nuclear medicine and DEXA procedures within the main departments .
This is an excellent opportunity for staff wishing to increase their clinical skills and maintain close patient contact whilst developing their clinical skills.
