Seafreight Import Operator Location: Glasgow Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week, 9:00 – 17:30 Monday to Friday About the position: The purpose of the Ocean Import Operator is to support the Ocean Import team leader in completing operational duties at the Glasgow site. To be responsible for gathering, checking, collating and preparing documentation and data in order to ensure that all documents can be concluded on shipments in a timely manner. To be responsible for contacting customers, partners and suppliers as appropriate in order to ensure all the correct data is available as required and any missing data has been provided prior to processing. The Ocean Import Operator will need to liaise with different customers both internally and externally as well as with government officials. You will be expected to follow strict processes and procedures to ensure that the information provided is complete, accurate and provided by the relevant individual Key Tasks and Responsibilities will include: Liaise with all customers, suppliers, government agencies, freight forwarders, importers, exporters et al as required to prepare primarily, but not exclusively, Ocean Import shipments for Hellmann UK Prepare and collate any relevant paperwork required for processing shipments Work closely with the Ocean Import Operators to ensure that they are able to complete Ocean Import shipments without having to source additional information, data or paperwork. To be trained with a view of working independently using specific custom systems to complete all Customs transactions. (ASM, Destin8 & Compass). Learn how to interface with HMRC regarding compliance issues as required in conjunction with senior members of the customs clearance team Learn how to complete Import Customs Declarations & create shipments thru Hellogic as required in conjunction with senior members of the team Contact relevant customers, subcontractors, partners, government officials regarding any discrepancies or issues prior to shipments being processed. Process any paperwork required in order to complete customs clearances and provide any details and information necessary to the relevant parties as per defined processes. Ensure they follow defined processes in order to ensure customs clearance processes are not hindered by deviances or missed requirements Work closely with existing customers to maintain service levels Liaise with Import Hellmann operational staff and the Hellmann sales team for day to day customs enquiries. Arrange ad-hoc shipments for Hellmann Partners and complete the invoices to be sent to Partners. Interface between the operational teams and the Customs Clearance Operators, to ensure that both provide and are in turn provided with the relevant details, information and paperwork in a timely manner Attend relevant seminars and training courses to ensure the maintenance of their understanding of Customs related legislation and requirements. Study and complete the agreed apprentice scheme to completion in order to gain a n understanding of the logistics industry and the area of customs clearances specifically. Provide out of hours support for customs clearance requirements About you: The ideal candidate will be educated in Maths and English (oral and written) to GCSE, Standard Grade or equivalent; grade A-C and be able to demonstrate highly competent computer skills in all areas of Microsoft office. High level of accuracy with attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. Ability to work effectively under own initiative. Competent in commercial IT packages including Word, Excel, E-mail etc Hard working, diligent with a flexible adaptable approach. Good team player. Good written and verbal communication skills Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
