North Lanarkshire Council is considered, by Scottish Government, as a strong performing Building Standards Verifying Authority. In recognition, our Service received the maximum Verification appointment period of 6 years.
North Lanarkshire Council’s Graduate Building Standards Apprenticeship is designed for an individual who wants to pursue a career in Building Standards. As an Apprentice you will receive formal training in addition to on-the-job training to enable you to gain the skills and qualifications needed to drive our Ambitions forward. You will be part of the Building Standards team dealing with a broad range of Building Standards functions. Primarily, you will be involved in statutory compliance work, plan assessment and site inspection including the updating and maintenance of case records. Throughout the period of your training you will gain knowledge and experience in all aspects of Buildings Standards work.
You will study at an appropriate College/University on either a block or day release distance learning basis with the aim being to ultimately attain a degree in appropriate subject area. You will be provided with time off to attend College/University, study time and you will also be supported by a work based mentor. This is a great opportunity to earn a salary immediately whilst you are studying and there is no cost to you for the training you will receive.
You will be joining a Service which strives for excellence in service delivery and is regarded as an exemplar in terms of our approach to public safety. Your good communication skills and proactive, customer-focussed approach will ensure you provide a professional service to architects, developers and other customers.
This post represents an exciting and challenging opportunity for a highly motivated individual aged 16 years or over with the necessary entry requirements for the relevant career pathway. With an HNC entry point, the minimum entry requirements are 1 Higher graded C or above. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will then progress onto the relevant degree course following successful completion of the HNC and satisfying degree entry requirements.
