Anexciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapistto join our multi-disciplinary Respiratory Care Team across North West Surrey, on a fixed-term basis. Thismultidisciplinary team (MDT) works in the community managing and supportingpatients with respiratory disease. Wesupport admission avoidance, provide early discharge programmes, communityclinics, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Ambulatory Oxygen prescription and homevisiting.
Previous experience ofmanaging patients with chronic respiratory disease and the psychological impactof long-term conditions is desirable as this role supports patients in thecommunity with the management of both the physical and psychological aspects ofrespiratory conditions and functional use of oxygen. The role will also supportthe delivery of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation exercise and education programmes.
This post is anopportunity to become a specialist occupational therapist in the field ofrespiratory care, working autonomously and as part of a MDT. The successfulcandidate must have good communication and organisational skills and work flexiblyto meet the changing needs of the service. The team strives towards evidence-based practice and audits theirservice regularly.

To undertake evidence-based projects,including recommendations for change in practice and to lead where appropriatein departmental evaluation/research.
To take a role/contribute inteaching/supervising acute and community OT staff and to influence acrossorganisations the implementation of best practice in respiratory care

16. To ensure timely and effectivecommunication with senior staff on all professional matters.
17. To attend staff meetings and activelyparticipate ensuring understanding of information imparted.
18. Assess patients understanding of treatmentproposals, gain valid consent and have the capacity to work within a legalframework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
19. To use a range of verbal and non-verbalcommunication tools to communicate effectively with patients in order toprogress rehabilitation and treatment programmes. This may include patients whowill have difficulties in understanding or communicating, patients who maybe deaf, blind, or be unable to accept diagnosis or presenting condition.
20. To be able to manage potentially stressful,upsetting, or emotional situations in an empathetic manner.
Analytical / Judgmental Skills
21. To use investigative and analytical skills to assesscomplex patients and support junior/other staff with their patients asrequired.
22. To make diagnosis of perceptual/cognitive andfunctional difficulties from generic or specialist OT assessment withoutmedical backup.
Responsibilities for human resources includingpersonal and people development
23. Under the supervision of Lead OccupationalTherapist, to assist in day-to-day operational management of the OccupationalTherapy service in Respiratory Care.
24. To supervise junior staff, therapyassistants and students.
25. To participate in the appraisal scheme asan appraisee and appraiser.
26. To be responsible for the supervision ofstudents on placement having attended a fieldwork supervisors course.
27. To provide professional supervision forjunior /therapy technicians as appropriate to ensure that services meet standardsas laid down by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.
28. To be responsible for and actively recordyour own personal development.
29. To keep abreast of new developments.
30. To undertake clinical reasoning sessionsand reflective practice sessions as participant and facilitator
31. To participate in any training sessions asa recipient and facilitator.
