Job Overview
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join our Phlebotomy Team at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury, Whitchurch Community Hospital Whitchurch, and the new Clinical Diagnostics Centre based at Hollinswood House Telford. This position is for 12-month maternity cover.
We are advertising for a part-time post working 37.5 hours over 7 days at any of the phlebotomy locations. This is a cross-site post when there is an operational need to travel to an alternative site. The working hours are Monday to Friday, between 08:00-17:00, with a rotational rota for Saturdays, Sundays, and bank holidays between 08:00-12:00. These hours are currently under review and could be subject to change in the future.
The successful candidate must have experience as a Phlebotomist, excellent communication skills, the ability to work under pressure while recording data accurately, an approachable nature, and the ability to fulfill travel requirements. Previous experience working as a supervisor is essential. Flexibility is also required as shifts will vary according to service needs.
Main Duties of the Job
The successful applicant will be part of a team that provides a phlebotomy service to The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. Duties will include:
1. Collection of blood samples by venepuncture from adults in the community, wards, and outpatient.
2. Collection of blood samples by venepuncture from children aged 12 months to 18 years.
3. Recording and labelling of samples in accordance with SOPs.
4. Collection of relevant statistics and entering them into relevant databases.
5. Delivery of samples to the laboratory by hand, via the hospital vacuum air tube system, by portering staff, and transport systems.
6. Understanding and applying health and safety, clinical risk management, and quality control responsibilities as they relate to the performance of duties.
7. Maintaining a clean and tidy working environment.
8. Covering occasional periods of absence by other team members.
9. Maintaining and updating skills through appraisal and liaison with phlebotomy trainers, keeping a personal record of achievement.
10. Organising rotas for all shift patterns for wards, outpatients, and community.
11. Supervising phlebotomists, booking team, and volunteers.
12. Updating statistics.
