Due to the current post holders progressing quickly through the structure we are offering an exciting opportunity in East Lindsey for an Assistant Highways Officer to join the organisation in a front-line team ensuring the safety of the Lincolnshire highway network and delivering an outstanding response to enquiries from members of the public. About the Team Lincolnshire County Council's Local Highways Management Team provides a front-line service and essential maintenance to one of the biggest highways networks in the Country. There are four Local Highway Teams covering the North, East, South and West of the county who work in partnership with both internal Operational Asset Management Teams and external contractors within the Lincolnshire Highways Alliance. About the Role You will be part of our Local Highways Team, providing assistance and support to Highway Officers and Senior Highway Officers. You will visit sites as part of your day-to-day work and have the chance to pull together packages of minor road maintenance works. The role is varied and challenging and you will have the opportunity to broaden your skills through training and development to support your progression in the highways sector, including day release for college to obtain qualifications in civil engineering, which the County Council will fund. Your workload will include highways maintenance, winter maintenance, highways safety inspections, Highway Act enforcement, minor highways and environmental improvements, and public interface on all highways services. Hybrid working is a feature of this role. The successful applicant will be required to attend the office alongside the rest of the team 2 days a week. On occasion additional days may be required. About You You will ideally hold an ONC in an appropriate discipline, or A levels. Streetworks accreditation and Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) registration are desirable but not essential. You will be able to demonstrate a basic level of technical knowledge in relation to highways maintenance or similar discipline. You will be flexible and responsive, with good interpersonal skills allowing you to work in a dynamic and diverse team. Good interpersonal skills and able to establish positive relationships with officers of the Council, Councillors and external agencies Experience of using IT systems such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint and the ability and drive to learn how to use bespoke asset management systems.
