Are you interested in a new career in Supported Housing, learning how to support our residents and keep our building secure? Our Housing Duty Worker role might be the first step!
As part of our new dedicated housing provision for 16-24 year olds based in Mansfield, YMCA Robin Hood Group are looking for responsible, trustworthy and compassionate people to join our Support Housing team to oversee the smooth running of our building and provide our residents with the support and care they require. This is your opportunity to be part of this from the very beginning!
Our Housing Duty Workers are at the heart of our housing team; being the first person most of our residents come into contact with. You will support them with anything they need while overseeing the smooth running of the building in general.
You will share our belief that everyone should have a fair chance to discover who they are and what they can become.
Being a Housing Duty Worker is one of the busiest and most varied roles in our service; you will cover everything from support work, incidents, administration, security, fire safety, cleaning support, and anything else that might arise while you are on shift.
With a specific interest in supporting young people, you will enjoy variety, love being busy, and thrive off never being able to predict exactly what will happen that day!
You will support our residents by:
1. Providing advice and assistance.
2. Providing keys/replacements where needed.
3. Collecting rent payments and dealing with queries or charges relating to rent payments.
4. Ensuring they understand their tenant obligations and rights as outlined in the License Agreement.
5. Responding to fire alarms.
6. Being the first point of contact when dealing with incidents, including emergencies, and liaising with the police and other agencies to prevent damage/harm to our residents and buildings.
7. Crisis management and incident reporting.
8. If needed, undertaking facilities/domestic duties to maintain the upkeep of our building.
You will also support applications from prospective residents, helping with form filling and signposting other agencies who may be able to assist them.
You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, on a 3-week rolling rota with advance warning of your shift patterns.
The weekly shift patterns are:
1. 7am - 3pm
2. 3pm - 11pm
3. 11am - 7pm
We have ensured our shift patterns are fully accessible by public transport, regardless of your start or finish time.
We are looking for someone ideally with experience or interested in gaining experience working in supported housing with vulnerable adults and young people aged 16-24 years old. However, we are also happy to provide training and development to start your career in Housing.
You will need to have an understanding of the needs of young people (aged 16 – 25) who may have drug, alcohol, and other issues. Regardless of your background, you should be confident in dealing with difficult situations and handling conflict appropriately.
This role would suit you if you have experience or a desire to learn skills for social work, youth work, housing, drug and alcohol services, rehabilitation services, sociology, security, and much more.
This role will really push your personal skills as we are looking for someone who can:
1. Work with minimal supervision, use initiative, work alone, and as part of a team.
2. Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.
3. Deal with conflict, manage aggressive behaviour, and diffuse situations effectively.
4. Communicate effectively with people of all backgrounds and abilities.
5. Form and maintain relationships with appropriate professional boundaries, acting as a role model for our residents.
