We are looking for a General Practitioner to join our expanding team and welcome newly qualified and experienced GPs to apply. We are a single practice PCN providing care for patients in our practice area covering Ivybridge and Plympton. We have a large and resilient multidisciplinary team and are looking for the right person to join us. As a practice we have been able to utilise the PCN DES to augment patient care. We have been fortunate to recruit paramedics, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, social prescribers, first contact physiotherapists and mental health workers to make a large impact on addressing GP Workload. We are looking for a GP to join the team at our Plympton site. We are a large partnership which enables a great deal of stability at a time of uncertainty within NHS General Practice. We are looking for the right GP for our practice and are happy to wait for the right candidate. We are open to portfolio working with many of our GPs having other interests but also welcome newly qualified GPs. We are a large training practice and support training at all levels.
Main duties of the job
As quality of life is important, we structure our workload and support each other to manage day to day demand. We have a Duty Day system led by our Allied Healthcare Professionals (Urgent Care Team) with Duty GP support but recognise the need for continuity. We operate own GP lists which are stratified to enable GPs to focus on continuity while our Urgent Care team deal with workload where acute care is favoured.
The post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care as set by the regulatory and standard setting organisations, including but not limited to the points below. In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post holder will undertake a variety of duties.

Job responsibilities
The duties of the post holder are to provide a full range of general medical services as contained within the National Health Services (Primary Care) Act 1997 and which will include: Face to Face appointments, telephone consultations and queries, triaging, video consultations, prescribing (including checking and authorising repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries), patient test results, QOF reviews, patient medical reports on behalf of the Practice as well as referral letters and other paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner.
As a Salaried GP for Beacon, you would be expected to support the partners of Beacon Medical Group in providing all Primary Medical Services in line with contractual and regulatory frameworks. There is also an expectation that you will support the Board and Beacon Medical Group's vision encompassing the NHS Strategy for Primary Care and diversification of services outside the core business.
As a Group we want to build our reputation. As an integral part of us, it is expected that you will help support and input into the aims of the Group in areas of clinical governance, good practice, quality outcomes framework, enhanced services, practice audit, referral review and any other improvement plans as determined by the Board.
As a member of our clinical team, it is expected that you maintain and keep good standards of clinical records on SystmOne and abide by Group policy, clinical templates, and protocols at all times. We can provide full training if you feel that you would like more support and will ensure that you are fully up to speed on our processes for record keeping.
You will also be expected to utilise and develop any skills for the improvement of services to patients, such as minor operations, child health surveillance, family planning training etc and the group encourages active engagement in developing and delivering new services. This will be subject to presentation of the appropriate certificates and update of relevant courses, which the Group will fully support if appropriate and in line with the group’s aims.
Clinical Duties
The practice operates a total triage system for all Routine and Urgent GP appointments. GP appointment requests are made by phone and online consultation. GPs are supported by a team of allied health professions to provide same day urgent care and some routine care such as care provided by MSK First Contact Physiotherapists. A Duty GP undertakes the role of lead clinician each day and you will be expected to undertake a pro-rata share of duty clinics, covering the role of duty GP during practice contracted operating hours.
In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including; remote consultations, telephone consultations and queries, triaging, video consultations, face to face appointments, prescribing (including checking and authorising repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries), patient test results, patient medical reports on behalf of the Practice as well as referral letters and other paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner.
Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
Clinical duties will include consulting people with acute conditions, on-going chronic conditions which will also include reviews based on the QOF and you will be expected to add the relevant coding to any patient file and report any errors. The Group will provide any QOF training on request.
Your clinical duties may also include delivery of enhanced services such as minor ops, implant fitting or clinical research. These clinics will be arranged with the Operational Managers and agreed in advance. Such clinics are available to the full practice population and are not limited to one GP's registered patients.
Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards using IT systems. Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions including EPS.
Prescribe in accordance with locally agreed or nationally agreed prescribing formulary. Work in accordance with all relevant clinical guidelines, pathways, and protocols, including agreed standard data entry processes.
You will undertake home visits to support housebound patients and those who it is determined need a home visit; home visits are allocated on a fair share basis and where possible you will be allocated patients on your registered list, however allocation is not limited to one GP's registered patients.
You will be providing telephone and face to face consultations in the morning and in the afternoon, plus you will take your share of extra consultations where demand is excessive in line with practice operational procedures.
You are expected to follow up results, x-rays, correspondence related to your allocated clinical list of patients and also those that you have generated yourself (investigations and queries related to your consultations), in line with good practice as recommended by GMC.
The post holder may have tasks or responsibilities delegated to them, appropriate to their level of competence. They may also be expected to delegate tasks or responsibilities to other staff, as appropriate.
Undertake a rotation of duty cover, online consultation sifting cover, and extended access cover.
QOF clinics are allocated periodically throughout the year and are booked face to face clinics. Amendments to normal programmed activities are made based on the number of QOF appointments required.
Student supervising. Amendments are made to normal activities where supervision of students is required.
The Group operates an own patient list as we strongly believe this enhances patient care. Your patient list will be allocated to you. As a guide the current list size is based on 220 per session.
The Group may seek to increase or reduce that number according to current patient numbers, however we will always use the principles of equality of list sizes and pro rata list size according to that of a current full-time practitioner.
The Board and Partners believe that the job plan allows sufficient time in the job plan to complete all administrative duties related to your clinical work, recognising the fact that all practitioners work at different rates.
Referrals should be completed on a daily basis in line with Group policy.
Investigations and referrals should be completed and associated documentation delayed within appropriate timescales or communicated to a colleague if you are prevented from keeping within the appropriate timescales.
Results are normally communicated either electronically or by letter, you will be expected to action these for your allocation of patients. Remote working GPs who do not have their own patient list will be allocated a share of admin workload for GPs not working that day.
You will be expected to complete examinations and reports for any external agency in line with agreed policy and those expected under the PMS contract on patients known to you. Additionally, you may be expected to complete reports requested by other parties such as insurance companies, OFSTED, and employers.
You will be expected to use appropriate processes for computerised record keeping including computerised clinical templates and protocols as well as ensuring that significant information as determined by the practice is recorded accurately e.g. all QOF domains. You will take part in reconciling information input periodically.

The Group has access to an online training platform, and you will be given log in access to the site and expected to undertake all Group mandatory training. This is in addition to your own contractually obliged professional training. It is expected that you attend Group training sessions delivered on site when you are able. (In date relevant training certificates will be considered in place of completion of online training modules)
Study leave is detailed in your contract and will be added to your annual leave allocation. It is expected that study leave is used for mandatory and personal development training.

We want you to feel that you can utilise your skills, particular expertise, and interest. You may have the opportunity to develop and provide an additional clinical service which enhances the Group, and we will support you with formalised contractual arrangements once mutual agreement is reached.
