Area Profile
NMHS Mental Health, Public Health and Dental Services (MHPHDS) Mental Health is the State’s largest mental health service providing Youth, Adult, Older Adult, Forensic and State-wide services in a variety of settings that include inpatient units within NMHS hospitals, community mental health centres, day therapy and outreach programs. The service includes Graylands Hospital, the state’s only standalone public psychiatric teaching hospital that provides acute care, rehabilitation, treatment and rehabilitation for adults.
The Community Adult Mental Health Service provides specialist mental health assessment and treatment for people with mental health needs living in the community, with clinics in Butler, Wanneroo, Mirrabooka, Osborne Park and Subiaco. Community Adult Mental Health also includes the Neuromodulation Service and the Creative Expression Centre for Arts Therapy (CECAT), a therapeutic creative arts service that utilises a range of creative mediums and processes to assist in mental illness recovery.
About this role
The Senior Medial Practitioner delivers psychiatric services within the Adult Mental Health Program at a community clinic in the North Metropolitan Health Service, Mental Health (NMHS MH). The primary purpose of the role is to examine and assess, diagnose and manage the care of consumers/patient’s mental health and monitor their general welfare. This can include provision of service to their families and carers. You will be expected to ensure comprehensive and specialised mental health assessment and treatment is provided for patients using a range of appropriate interventions and evidence-based best practice treatment.
The Senior Medical Practitioner provides training, supervision and education, where relevant, for Doctors in Training and other health workers. You will work to achieve national, state and North Metropolitan Health Service performance standards and targets whilst working within the scope of clinical practice as defined and recommended by the NMHS.
This role reports to the Head of Service/ Consultant Psychiatrist.
