Emergency Planning Manager at Southern Water
We have a great opportunity here at Southern Water for an Emergency Planning Manager!
The overall purpose of this role is to develop and shape our emergency planning, preparedness, and resilience within operations, as well as to identify risks and respond to emergency situations as necessary.
The successful candidate will work on projects and programmes that enhance our incident response capabilities and support an on-call role, organizing alternative water provisions for our customers.
We offer a hybrid working model: you will work 2-3 days in the Durrington office and the rest from home. The office is accessible by train and bus, with amenities like a canteen and summer outdoor lunch areas overlooking a pond.
Accountabilities:
1. Collaborate with the Resilience and Emergency Planning Manager to deliver and maintain operational strategies for emergency planning and business continuity.
2. Lead a team of Emergency Planners to support strategy implementation and objectives.
3. Prepare, review, and update emergency plans and operational procedures, ensuring stakeholder integration.
4. Identify risks and hazards impacting operations and take necessary response actions.
5. Build and manage relationships with regulators and stakeholders, developing joint strategies with multi-agency partners.
6. Lead projects and programmes for the Resilience and Emergency Planning team.
7. Manage an annual exercise programme to test and improve plans.
8. Support internal training and debriefs related to incident response and operational competency.
9. Monitor and enhance preparedness to ensure regulatory compliance and operational readiness.
Knowledge and Experience:
* Previous emergency planning experience, including writing and reviewing emergency and operational plans.
* Knowledge of the water industry and relevant regulations (Civil Contingencies Act 2004, Water Industry Act 1991, Security and Emergency Measures Direction 2022).
* Risk management skills, including mitigation planning.
* Experience responding to incidents and managing unpredictable events.
* Leadership skills, including coaching and mentoring teams.
* Project management experience with process improvements.
* Strong relationship-building with internal and external stakeholders.
* Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality service.
* Problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure during incidents.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
