Summary:
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Hooper Quinn for a skilled and highly motivated engineer to join our motorsport powertrain design team.
Essential Requirements:
1. A minimum of 5 years in industry
2. A minimum of 3 years experience in Siemens NX and Teamcenter
Our ideal candidate will be a practical and creative solver of mechanical engineering problems who combines a deep understanding of engineering fundamentals with powertrain experience to accelerate projects with efficient solutions. Working semi-autonomously alongside a team of highly accomplished engineers, the successful candidate will take responsibility for the design and development of Formula 1 engine, battery and motor components and systems.
Responsibilities:
1. Work on mechanical engineering design tasks alongside internal and external engineering teams, taking responsibility for requirements gathering, concept design, drafting, DFM, RFQs and supplier liaison with little supervision.
2. Ensure compliance with client's stringent release processes and documentation requirements, while adhering to engineering best practices.
3. Act as a primary technical point of contact for our clients, and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, test, and supply chain, to optimize product design for manufacturability, assembly, performance, and cost.
4. Organise and lead design reviews ad-hoc and at critical project milestones.
5. Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including GD&T drawings, test specifications, and reports.
6. Conduct failure analysis and troubleshooting on existing and new designs, proposing modifications to improve performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
7. Stay abreast of the latest technology trends and engineering best practices, integrating innovative solutions into designs where applicable.
8. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement, and become an ambassador for the wider company’s values.
Skills & Qualifications:
1. UK Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, or Automotive Engineering
2. 2-4 years of relevant industry experience (following graduation).
3. Working experience of CAD software (SolidWorks, NX, CREO) and PLM software (e.g. Teamcenter, 3DExperience).
4. Confident with basic hand calculations, component sizing, and a basic understanding of FEA.
5. A fundamental understanding of engineering materials (metallic/composite/plastic), fabrication processes and their application, as well as a variety of manufacturing techniques and when to employ them.
6. Strong familiarity with fundamental mechanical systems (e.g. bearings, shafts, casings, hydraulics, pneumatics).
7. Hands-on engineering experience is desirable, be it having made, built, or restored a mechanical system.
8. Ability to understand project plans quickly and work efficiently to deadlines.
9. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively both in a team and independently, and interact with stakeholders at all levels.
