Procurement Head’s Industrial team are looking to recruit an experienced Commodity or Project Buyer for a prestigious vehicle engineering company based locally to Peterborough
Lead and manage a commodity group of products with a strategic focus on sourcing materials, negotiating, and managing commercial contracts. This role aims to enhance the Company's procurement function by aligning with broader business goals and objectives. You will collaborate closely with various business areas to oversee direct categories and support the purchasing function across production, while implementing strategic procurement initiatives.
Commodities to include; Wood, Resin, Stainless Steel, Electronics, Fasteners and Engines
AsCommodity Buyeryou will be responsible for;
* Develop and implement strategic commodity strategies for a specific range of commodities, ensuring alignment with the company's short- and long-term business goals. Stay informed about marketplace developments, including commercial, technical, and potential supplier trends
* Procurement of all relevant materials in relation to project BOM
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine and maintain commodity strategies that support overall business production objectives
* Conduct thorough evaluation of cost data and quotation analysis to identify and execute cost-saving opportunities. Leverage supplier and business process insights to drive positive Procurement performance.
* Lead total cost and contractual negotiations with current and potential suppliers, employing strategic negotiation techniques to secure optimal value for money while maintaining strong supplier relationships.
* Develop and implement strategic category management plans that focus on risk reduction, supplier performance enhancement, and innovation. Regularly review supplier risk profiles and develop robust risk mitigation strategies.
* Oversee supplier performance ensuring high standards of quality, cost, and delivery. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance these metrics.
* Proactively seek process improvement opportunities both internally and with suppliers, focusing on implementing business ‘Best Practice’ initiatives.
* Lead efforts to foster strong supplier relationships, playing an instrumental role in achieving and exceeding the function’s business objectives.
* Ensure the procurement function contributes strategically to the business by aligning procurement activities with overall organisational goals, reducing risks, and promoting sustainable practices.
Skills and Experience:
* Experience with some of the relevant commodities
* Experience sourcing for and negotiating with suppliers
* An understanding of risk reduction across supply base
* Previous experience purchasing to BOMS or in a project buying capacity
