GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant to join our team in South Shields. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant in a Secondary setting, you will play a vital role in helping students with social, emotional, mental health (SEMH) needs across Key Stages 3 and 4 to achieve their full potential. Responsibilities Of a Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with social, emotional, mental health (SEMH) needs Assist the class teacher in managing challenging behaviours Promote positive behaviour and emotional well-being Support students with their academic, social, and personal development Create a safe and supportive learning environment Collaborate with teachers, parents, and outside agencies to support student progress Requirements For a Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs Strong behaviour management skills Patience, empathy, and resilience Good communication and interpersonal skills Ability to build strong relationships with students and staff An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one) Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including an enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
